“Nice ocean view room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

We were in Carmel for a wedding. Three of us stayed at Horizon Inn in an upstairs (no elevator) Premiere Ocean View room with a king size bed and a queen sofa sleeper. The room was quite nice with a gas fireplace, small refrigerator, microwave, and cups, plates, and glasses. The view from the room was wonderful. We could see the ocean and the coastline to the south.

The morning breakfast basket was a nice touch, too, with danish or bagel, orange juice, and cereal or yogurt.

There is parking available in the courtyard and also underground parking available at no charge. There is a dry cleaner next door and a self-service laundromat.

The Inn is about three blocks from the main shopping street. It’s downhill, though, and that means it’s uphill on the way back. So be aware if anyone in your party has mobility issues. If you drive downtown, parking hard to find, and offsite parking is nonexistent, so don’t expect to park close to your destination.

Hard to find anything to criticize, but I did notice the closet area (no door) had about a five feet dowel, but about half of it was not useable as a wall was too close to the dowel so that hanging clothes would hang askew and rub the wall.

We would definitely stay here again.

We have stayed at the Horizon Inn several times over the past few years and always in one of the cottages. We travel with dogs and it is very convenient. Very nice and helpful staff.

My adult daughter and I stayed at the Horizon Inn for a relaxing weekend of shopping and sightseeing in Carmel, and it was a great choice. We had an ocean view room, with terrific views of the bay all the way to Point Lobos. A nice continental breakfast arrived in a picnic basket at our room each morning -- we loved this, as we could eat in our pjs while enjoying the view from the table on the balcony. The staff was friendly and helpful, our room was a generous size, moderately priced, and very clean, and the heart of downtown Carmel is just a couple of blocks away. Who could ask for more?

While in Carmel, don't miss the Point Lobos State Natural Preserve. Just five minutes down the coast from Carmel, it has wonderful hiking along the rocky coastline. The historic mission is also worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view room at the Horizon Inn.

Thank you for highlighting so many aspects of our property that appealed to you and your daughter. As an owner I appreciate hearing that our property is not only meeting the needs of our clientele but surpassing their expectations. Like you I enjoy an in-room breakfast because I hate to have to leave the comfort of my room. Thank you for taking the time to review our property.

We stayed at this hotel on a Friday night (June 9th) & were lucky enough to get the second last room ( #102)our balcony had a partial ocean view as well as a partial mountain view. We checked in around 10PM and were really hungry. The gal at the front desk was really nice but didnt know Carmel very well & she was from there. She told us to drive back out to the highway for food, when there were 3 places open right around the corner within walking distance. I always say Hotel staff that speak to clietns shouod know their town & the key things that guests need: Food, Gas, Convenience Stores, key directions, and key attractions.

They have a neat little fireplace that they light up at night in the courtyard for guests as well as a hot tub. I think it closed down at midnight. THe town is amazing & ( still going strong at 89)

Room Tip: Ask for rooms 102 which has a partial ocean view as well as mountain / valley view. The best rooms a...

We enjoyed our stay here. It was our first trip to Carmel. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance of hotel. View of ocean was accessible from courtyard area, but not our rooms. Perfect cottage for staying a few days. Very clean. Working fireplace (though ours was strong smell when checking in), furnished kitchen, nice linens and bathroom ammenities. Even robes for loan! In the morning, breakfast was delivered in a picnic basket. It was wonderful to have local danish, fresh juice and fruit and not have to leave the comfort of our room.

Room Tip: Bring room spray or candle, in case your room has fireplace odor. Ask for rooms on end, with closest...

Thank you for writing in a review of The Lodge. One of the most unique features and a top selling point of the cottages are the wood burning fireplaces in the living room. There are so few properties left in town that offer actual wood burning fireplaces. I for one find them very romantic, especially on a night when the coastal fog has rolled in. I'm so glad you enjoyed spending time in the room. They are incredibly spacious and work really well for families. We look forward to having you back again soon.

We've visited Carmel and Monterrey many times, but usually do not stay in Carmel. After staying here, we would pick this hotel every time. Our room had a partial view of of the water and it was amazing. The May day was so nice that we used the balcony. Parking is impossible in Carmel so it was so great to walk to everything in town, for lunch, to the sandy beach, and for dinner.

My wife absolutely loved the room. It was quiet and quite comfortable. I wish we were here longer!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 103, and it was great.

Thank You Horizon Inn for a very warm and comfortable stay. This was our first stay in Carmel, and after reading reviews, we decided to stay here. A great location, the staff is very knowledgeable and professional, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, nice shower and jacuzzi tub, nice view...nice, nice, nice! Also enjoyed the breakfast baskets/newspaper in the morning. The off street parking was a plus as well. Excellent recommendations on local restaurants. We will see you soon!

Room Tip: We stayed in 116. Nice view!
