“Local vibe with super location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

Stayed at Colonial Terrace with 14-year-old son late December 2013.

Colonial Terrace was a wonderful find! We have family in the immediate area and wanted to find a place to stay within walking distance. It appears that each room is unique -- we stayed in room #4 which was a two queen room with adjacent kitchenette (fridge, sink and microwave), fireplace and bathroom. The decor is old time in a nice way -- it's like stepping back in time before all things electronic were needed (They do have plenty of outlets for charging, however!). Extra large room was spotless and sleep was super quiet. Our bathroom was also old school. Lighting not great, but it was neat old school with lots of white tile and quite large.

Location is great if you like to walk in the Carmel-by-the Sea neighborhoods. Carmel City Beach (you can build campfires there!) is one block away along with the wonderful Scenic Road walking path. There is a Safeway grocery store within close driving distance over by the Mission. Staying at the Terrace really gave us the feeling of living in Carmel. Bring a flashlight if you are walking at night -- there are no street lights as locals like stargazing.

Staff was super accommodating. They truly made us feel at home. We checked out several board games for our room. Morning breakfast was continental -- the coffee was great and they have "to go" cups for strolling. Parking provided for guests -- another super plus in this area. The gardens surrounding this hotel reminded us of old Hollywood. Superbly manicured and quite fragrant. You can almost hear Bing Crosby singing as you explore the property. Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Call the office to book your room. They are super accommodating and will find the right fit for you...

We chose this Inn based on good reviews, but we will not stay here again. Although the grounds are lovely and you can see the ocean peaking through the trees, the $350/night King Ocean View Room was very disappointing. It was unattractive, with worn, scuffed furniture, a very plain, old bathroom with a scuffed and darkened tile floor, a scratchy dull carpet and uncomfortable pillows. The worst part was the seemingly old heater that woke us up repeatedly during the night as it crackled and clicked loudly each time it turned off. The only nice thing I can say is that the mattress and linens were comfortable. It is quite a shame because the staff was very efficient and it could be quite wonderful if they either lower the prices significantly or update the rooms.

Dear EastBayMom2:
Needless to say, I am very disappointed to read your review about your recent visit. I am very sorry that you did not find the room to your liking. Please know that had we been able to move you to a more suitable room during your stay, we would have done so immediately. We just did not have the rooms available to accommodate you. I am happy to inform you that we are in the initial stages of planning a remodel of all of our guest rooms and suites. In addition to updating all the furniture, carpets, wall coverings and other soft goods, we will also be installing new flat screen televisions and updating the bathrooms. Once again, I do apologize and hope that you will give us another chance once our renovation is completed. If you would like to discuss anything about your stay with us, please feel free to contact me directly at 831-624-2741. Meanwhile, thank you for your feedback. Amber Cyran, General Manager.

Carmel is awesome. However, it has recently(in regards to my lifetime) become very commercial. Colonial Terrace has latched on to this. However, I can not blame them and we had a wonderful stay. We had a ocean view and great service. I would recommend to anyone looking for romance.

This was our second time staying at the Colonial Terrace. The staff were very accommodating. The grounds are meticulous and the rooms are wonderful. They brought to our room a small frig, microwave and a fold out table. All you need to do is ask. The ocean is one block away. out our window you could see the ocean. The room had a gas fireplace which kept us cozy in late November 2013. The weather was spectacular during the day and early evening. They serve an array of breakfast items in the morning (coffee, tea, juice's, milk, pastries cold and hot cereals along with fruit in season). In the evening there is a delightful smell lofting from the Lobby....Fresh Hot Cookies, coffee, tea, hot cocoa and milk. I can't say enough about the staff, they are amazing. Overall this place is a ten (10) in my book. I am born and raised San Jose, California, so I am familiar with Carmel. There is a lot of choices in hotels to stay at in and around the Monterey Peninsula and the value of The Colonial Terrace and their staff is priceless.

Room Tip: The first time we stayed we were in the garden area which seemed to be a little bit nosier. This ti...

We loved this B&B. The location is great. It is about a 10 minute walk to downtown Carmel and you can see and hear the ocean from the room. It is not actually on the beach but its only about a minute walk. We got a great deal last minute to stay here on 'Hotel Tonight' and feel like we got a great value. The staff was so accommodating and helpful. There are fire pits you can sit around at night on the property as well. It is such a nice place to stay if you want to get away and relax. We will definitely be back!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a small room but it was nice and quaint. There was a little fireplace next to the bed...

We visited in early Dec 2013 when the weather was freezing - literally 32 degrees at dawn. But the staff made us feel warm with their hospitality and helpful suggestions. Only problem was the noise of downstairs neighbors who arose at 6am with the tv on high. This was unit 3. When booking ask for suggesions about more 'sound proof' units...there are several.
The breakfast is very nice with lots of choices - but don't expect bacon and eggs. You won't go away hungrey. The location is very handy for visiting all the local area. Just a few blocks from downtown Carmel but suggest driving. While there do the 17 Mile Drive. and don't be afraid to venture off the signed road. There are many houses, vistas and other things to see.

Room Tip: ask for a 'map' of the property to determine if there are adjoining or downstairs rooms that...

Dear William T: Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay here at the Colonial Terrace. As you stated, it was unseasonably cold for Carmel this past December, but I am very happy that the hotel’s staff and hospitality they provided kept you warm. I am also glad that the hotel’s location was ideal for you while you were visiting the area. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to your next visit with us.

The hotel is very modern and it's like a nice home.
The reception is a room with tables and sofa and it's the same place where breakfast is served.
Rooms are small but nice with a very comfortable bed.
The hotel is near to the beach and we liked a lot the experience.
