“Just plain tired.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Well all I can say is that this motel has a great location. Circa 1954 I'll bet it was nice, however it is just a place to hang your hat in a wonderful town. We got an internet rate of $79 and that was all it was worth. Clean, but worn out!

Among the best (tourist) locations in Carmel, maybe you shouldn't expect much of a motel. The free WiFi worked well, the rooms were clean, but not great or modern. We got a cheap walk in rate. At price I would use it again, at published rate I would look elsewhere...

“Old and tired” is the only way to describe the Carmel Village Inn. The images on its website are extremely misleading. The walls of the rooms are dirty and the paint is chipped; the furniture is old, scuffed and marred; the 1960-era aluminum window frames are corroded (when I went to open the window in the bedroom, the handle fell off in my hand); mirrors need to be re-silvered or, better yet, replaced. The “inn” is in desperate need of a major refurbishing. Demolition and reconstruction would serve it well. Breakfast was adequate but not more than that. Having said all that, the bed in our room was as good as it gets when it comes to comfort.

Ps: Though the inn bills itself as the Carmel Village Inn on its website and various booking sites, the large sign at the front of the property says only "Village Inn."

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms in the corner where the two wings of the motel join together (behind the staircase).

The flowers and gardens give a very favourable first impression of this motel. From the outside a desirable motel. Unfortunately our room was a little tired inside. That said the room was clean with a good sized bed. Free wifi.
A good breakfast choice.
Friendly staff.

Room Tip: A 2 floor motel and i would have thought there was little to be chosed between each room.

Perfect location at the edge of Carmel, in walking distance of everything! Clean rooms, slightly dated and motel-style (the people above us clomped around a bit but that could be alleviated by staying on the top floor). Great value as we wanted two beds and got two twins (don't see that much!) which was perfectly adequate (and well-priced). Free included breakfast and parking right out front.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, choose the second floor.

The people were nice, but this is an extremely average place..location too far to walk to the town or beach and rooms not large or nice. just plain. The service though is quite good.
Other places, closer to town and beach were far nicer and spacious and even cheaper!

Positioned perfectly for a visit to carmel by the sea. This place is cheaper and therefor not the best hotel i've ever stayed in but that's what you get. Don't get me wrong, i loved it. I was right where i wanted to be, walking distance from the beach, shopping, and food. All for a little less than everywhere else. This place has everything you need and nothing you don't. Have fun and enjoy the area!
