“Very convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

Initially, I wasn't blown away by this inn. Walls are paper thin. Heard every conversation from the next room. However the location and staff soon won me over. We could walk anywhere we needed to go. The setting is beautiful. The breakfast is not much to write home about. We generally walked down the street to Carmel Bakery for breakfast. Will get a cottage if we go back.

This is a very nice small Inn located on the main street of Carmel. The rooms are large and the bathroom although not huge is more than adequate. Bed was comfortable and the room had space to lounge. Located within walking distance of all the downtown shops, local beach and a nice walk to Pebble Beach. A big plus is parking, although the spaces are as small as a European hotel and take some cautious maneuvering, it makes life much easier, as parking is a premium. Breakfast was good and in a small but bright room. Most of the guest appeared to be older. This Inn was not cheap but very affordable for the area. We would definitely stay here again.

we enjoyed staying in this inn because of its location and gardens. We stayed in one of the
historical suites and enjoyed having a kitchen. It is in a great location and close to the ocean
and the downtown. We would stay again.

My wife and I spend only one evening in the Normandy Inn in Carmel, California, and it was one of the best experiences
of our trip to the San Fran & point south portion of California. Affordability is always a real plus when you are surrounded by the luxuries of America . . . loads of expensive homes, golf courses (can't even play most!), cars, and jewels.
The management and staff of this fine establishment were cordial and professional. The rooms were small, yet comfortable, and the breakfast was far beyond standard fare. The Normandy Inn is in the midst of the shopping mecca of Carmel, yet is its own enclave of elegance. Both Sherryl and I would recommend this Inn to anyone traveling in or even near the world of central California.

We selected Normandy Inn for our one-night stay because of its location and its reasonable price (for Carmel). The room was an acceptable size and beautifully appointed. The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable! We were in room 322 which was in the back and very quiet, with lovely views of charming patios and the pool.
The bathroom was large and had a large closet with shelves. Ironing board and iron were provided. There was a separate vanity and mirror. But the shower head was inexplicably low. Its spray was directly in my face and I'm only 5'4"! Very strange.
Breakfast was merely adequate -- equal to that of a budget chain hotel. But the breakfast room was in its own little cottage, reached via garden paths, and that was delightful.
The location is excellent -- near the beach and towards the end of the main road, so it's less-traveled, but still right next to restaurants and shopping. We were provided a parking space, which is imperative in Carmel. We would definitely stay here again.

Spent 2 quality nights in Carmel by the sea. What a treat this inn was to stay at , also
a really nice touch was the sherry in the late afternoon. Reasonable and friendly.
The lady in the breakfast room was also so sweet, like being in your own home.

The location is great. A few blocks down the hill and you are on the beach. We were in room 201 (right off the main road) - which had a lot of traffic noise - both from cars and people walking down the street right outside the windows of the room. The room was clean, but very small. It was not a room you'd want to spend much time in - just to sleep and change.

Re: this being a bed and breakfast: this is no more of a bed and breakfast than any of the chain hotels that offer a continental breakfast spread every morning. The food options were even more limited than most. There was no interaction with the other guests - which is another reason why many choose to stay at B&B's. There is a "social hour" in the evening with brandy and wine - but we didn't see anyone there the nights we stayed.

Bottom line - the location is great, the rest is no big deal. If you are sensitive to noise, try to avoid staying the "cottage" rooms off of the main road.

Room Tip: Avoid "cottage" rooms off the main road as there is a lot of car and pedestrian noise.
