“Feels like home-- if only your home could be in Carmel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

What a truly pleasant surprise! Now I don't want to gush, because I want to be able to get a room the next time I'm in the Carmel area! But it's hard not to. A very homey place that still exudes Carmel charm, made even more homey by the friendly, helpful, easygoing, family-friendly hosts, Gretchen and Doug-- not to mention the gorgeous pair of super-calm brown tabbies. We stayed inside the inn, in the Patio Room, which was roomy, pretty, brand new updated bathroom, and our own private walled patio outside the French doors. The food was wonderful, we sat both mornings in a corner surrounded by books-- even the books made us feel at home-- and enjoyed a beautifully prepared full breakfast. As former innkeepers, we recognize the focus and care it takes to offer a great experience to each guest, and we easily recognize that Gretchen and Doug do this very, very well. The location was perfect, away from the center of tourist noise and lights, and a very very short block to the white sand beach and turquoise water. So why doesn't it get 5 stars? Only because the property itself is struggling with age, something to expect as the accumulating years demand more vigorous and extensive maintenance. Our pretty room suffered from damp intrusion damage in one wall which demanded repair, and a new coat of paint would not have hurt. That said, it was pretty easy to ignore in light of the warm and generous hosts-- AND the bonus cats! Next time we hope one of the cottages will be available, because we WILL be back.

Room Tip: Did not stay in the separate cottages, but the Patio Room has a wonderful private patio; however you...

We are B&B owners ourselves and we recognize the earmarks of good place to stay. This B&B (cottages), gets high marks! The Picadilly Cottage that we stayed in was charming and just perfect for a stay at the beach. The beach - just a block away of course in Carmel is fabulous! Gretchen and Doug, out hosts, were bright, informative and helpful. We were served delicious breakfasts in their front room which was filled with charming memorabilia of Gretchen's past since this was originally her family home. It was winter but even then their gardens were enjoyable. Close to downtown but away from the crowds on a side street that was quiet. Not only is this pleasantly priced but perfect for a Carmel beach stay.

we stayed here last spring, it was our first time staying at a B&B, it was myself, my husband and our 9 month old daughter. We were more than happy with our experience and the staff was more than helpful with accommodating our little one :). The food was amazing, I'm still dreaming of the baked French toast. It was a quick walk to the beautiful beach and lovely gardens on site. It was a bit of a walk to town,or a quick drive to restaurants. I cant wait until we get to come back!

Room Tip: we loved the picadilly cottage! great value and ample space for a small family

We were looking for a loverly quaint, comfortable, clean, convenient, home base for venturing out into the area from Monterrey to Big Sur. Edgemere was all we hoped for and more. We were greeted by welcoming hosts, cottage kitties, fresh baked cookies and lovely farmer's market bouquets. We stayed in Rosemont most of the week and then in Devon for the last night. Both were pretty and comfortable in every way. A lot of thought has gone into what may be needed for comfort in both warm and cool weather. We especially enjoyed using the fireplace each night in Rosemont. I believe the other cottages have gas powered stoves that are also cozy. The hosts did a wonderful job of listening to our hopes for the trip and making suggestions that filled each day with fun and interest. They have passes to the aquarium in Monterey that guests may use and attend to details such as providing a beach fire kit for a memorable beach evening at a minimal cost. And the breakfast began each day with perfection :-) Can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Both rooms were extremely quiet during our stay even with windows open. Rosemont is all one level...

Excellent location. Quick, easy walk to the beach. Or, longer walks along the beach or through the town. Owners provide flashlights for nighttime walking as it's quite dark at night.

Inviting. Owners are sincerely welcoming and helpful.

Quaint. The grounds are lovely, w/ herbs throughout. Rooms are unique and comfy. Two nice cats.

Price is right. Breakfast is quality, home-cooked food.

Owners found to be helpful above and beyond the call of duty when a problem arose.

Highly recommended. I'll be back.

We stayed here in late October, and we were in the Rosemont cottage. I loved it as soon as we arrived. The cottages are cute & cozy surrounded by gardens and two friendly cats. The owners Gretchen & Doug made us feel quite welcome and make a great breakfast. We even had our own little patio which was tucked in around the corner where I could sit (to dine on my chocolate) and be visited by the cats. The location is wonderful; my husband & I walked down to the beach (one block away) a couple of times each day (always went down to watch the sunset). It was difficult to leave after only three nights.

We loved the Edgemere cottages. They are very cozy and tucked away among a lovely garden with cats wandering around. Just a block or two from the beach and not far from great restaurants and wine tasting bars. Wood burning, remote operated fireplaces in the rooms were amazing, and they even have small kitchens inside. Breakfast was good and nice to chat with the owners. A lovely spot!
