“Great Location, But Very Small”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Love the convienent location as others have mentioned, but our room, number 3, was very small and the bathroom was a very tight squeeze with no counter space at all for toiletries. It was the least expensive room so I guess we got what we paid for, but the bathroom needs paint and the comforter on the bed needs to be replaced as it is faded and had a small tear in it. Could be a charming room with just a little upkeep and somehow finding some counter space or a shelf in the bathroom. Did enjoy the complementary wine and sherry in our room!

“Kiwi in Carmel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

Wonderful location to the village with all it's cafes, shops, bars & galleries.
Warm hospitality, very clean and tidy rooms with comfortable bed and nice extra touches in the room that were all complimentary, including breakfast basket to your room in the morning.
Very reasonable rate.
Pretty hard to fault, definitely recommend it.

“First appearances deceiving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2012

When we first drove up our first reaction was "no, this is not the place that we want to stay" since this was clearly a 50's motel on a narrow lot with very limited parking, and the parking that was there requires considerable talent in backing up in order to get out. The room (unit 4, with a king size bed) was small but nicely upgraded. Quality hardwood floors, superior tile in the bath, a nice flat screen tv with plenty of channels (that bore no resemblence to the tv listings in the local paper), IKEA quality furnishings and all in all, quite nice. The reception persons (only one on duty at a time) were a delight and great to deal with. The evening wine and cookies were really good. The location, on the ocean side of downtown, was perfect. During the day the unit is noisy which made the nightime quiet more surprising. The king size bed could use a better mattress but it worked. The bath shower was one of the best that I have ever exerienced which made the slow water in the sink basin unexpected. The morning basket of the continental breakfast was quite good. The unit was clean and well maintained. All in all, we'd stay there again and recommend the unit as an affordable alternative to relatively high Carmel hotel costs.

Room Tip: I'd go for the king size bed always

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012

This hotel has lots of Carmel charm and the location is perfect. The upstairs rooms are quiet and the beds are very comfy. You'll get a knock at the door at 8:30 am and a basket is delivered with your breakfast - usually some pastry, hard boiled eggs, juice (coffee is in the room) and fruit. It's a nice start to the day and the decanter of sherry is a nice ending. The Dametra Cafe just around the corner and up one block on Ocean is a wonderful fun place to eat lunch or dinner. Make reservations for dinner - there's usually a line out the door. The beach is a couple blocks down and from room 5 you get a peek at the ocean.

This isn't the fanciest hotel in Carmel but it is comfy, clean, the price is right and the location is perfect. You check in at the Monte Verde hotel across the street.

Room Tip: The second floor has an exit at the top of the stairs to a courtyard that leads to Ocean - you don...

“A Fantastic Place to Stay!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

Came here with my girlfriend for a combination valentines day/2 year anniversary trip and we could not have been more pleased. The location is nearly unbeatable, right off of Ocean Street, near shopping, restaurants, and galleries and just a short walk to the beach. Leora at the front desk was amazing. She was very accommodating, she gave us a complimentary bottle of wine to help us celebrate our anniversary. Made us feel not like guests but more like friends. The room was very nice and felt very homey. No bath tub but the size and comfort of the shower more than compensated for that. The bed was cozy, the room was comfortable and the complimentary bottle of Sherry was delicious. They provide a parking lot for their guests which comes in handy in Carmel. They have a very nice outdoor lounge area with a fire pit and more complimentary Wine to help make the night magical. The picnic style delivered to the room was delicious and convenient. All in all it was a wonderful place, and we will definitely make this our anniversary destination for years to come.

Room Tip: A wonderful place to stay.
