“good location. pleasant hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

Not luxury but clean and well located. We had a good night's sleep, the continental breakfast delivered to the room was adequate. The room was dated but well maintained. Hotel does not have air conditioning which was not needed when we were there.

We were travelling down the PCH and decided to stop in Carmel for a night, we quickly found that all hotels in the area were pricey!
We chose Carmel Lodge, lovely little place in a great location, a little dated but very clean.
Reception staff were wonderful and we had a continental breakfast brought to the room in the morning.
Would recommend and would stay again.

Hi Cln1510! So happy you found us, and thanks for this lovely review. That drive down PCH is one of the most gorgeous in the world, and we're happy we were part of your trip -- hope you have great memories!

This is an older hotel. We had a room upstairs with a little balcony. The room was small, but had everything we needed. The bathroom was small with a very small shower stall, however, clean and updated fixtures. The TV was in the cabinet, it was not a flat screen TV. The shelf it was sitting on, was a little too low to really watch well from the bed. The breakfast was brought to our room: one croissant, two strawberries, glass of orange juice, cup of coffee with cream and sugar on the side. I had read the reviews before we had booked here and was aware of the small breakfast, which is really just a snack. However, considering what we paid, it was a nice touch and nicely presented. Free parking and walking distance to Ocean Drive, shops, restaurants. Even though it is in the middle of town and our room faced San Carlos Avenue, we did not hear any noise at night time only in the early mornings the street sweeper. Staff was very friendly and helpful at check-in and check-out. Definitely a place, where we will stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room number 12. It was upstairs (no elevator) and had a little balcony with two chairs...

Hi Carmen G!
Thanks for taking time to write a nice review for us. I'm glad you pointed out our balcony rooms, which are favorites with lots of travelers. It's nice to be able to enjoy your breakfast on the balcony. Hope to see you again!

The staff are the best thing about Carmel Lodge, they are friendly and helpful, but unfortunately that can"t hide the fact that the rooms, and particularly the bathrooms, are in need of updating. My room was a reasonable size with a balcony, but the carpets and furnishings were starting to look a bit shabby and the bathroom had definitely seen better days. On the first morning of my stay the toilet overflowed and although the staff were quick to deal with it, it didn't enhance the overall experience. Rather oddly, given that the hotel has a restaurant, breakfast was delivered to room on a tray and consisted of two strawberries, a small and rather stale croissant, a small glass of orange juice and a cup of filter coffee. Fortunately there are some places that serve an excellent breakfast nearby, but I'd suggest that the Carmel Lodge either improves it's offer significantly or advises guests to go elsewhere. For anyone thinking of staying here in the summer months it is also worth noting that it has no air conditioning. Overall, while it has the potential to be a nice place to stay if the new owners are willing to invest in it, at the moment I wouldn't rush back.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a balcony

There are lots of old, charming/quaint properties in Carmel, but this isn't one of them. First the good things: very comfortable bed, amazing staff, very fast free Wifi and fantastic location. The bathroom was a joke. Tiny space, tiny sink, tiny toilet even, and the shower was....tiny with the shower head below chin height for me at 6'.

They need to invest a lot of money to update tile, carpets, outlets (which wouldn't keep my iPhone charger held in - just fell right out), key cards for security (still use real keys), and insulating walls so noise from hallways isn't loud as it was. The swimming pool, was drained and out of service and we were not told.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms in the same building as the office.

Thanks, Dan, for taking time to write a review of Carmel Lodge. The new owners have been working hard for the past year to make improvements that guests will appreciate -- new carpet in all the rooms, new interior and exterior paint, some new furniture -- and behind-the-scenes improvments to things like roofing, etc. The pool has been closed for almost a year and we've made every effort to remove references to it online. We're going to remodel that area into a gathering place for guests with a firepit, which can be better utilized in Carmel than a pool. Thanks so much for praising the staff -- we're very proud of them. Hope to see you again in the future!

This is a cozy hotel that offers all you can need. It was clean and comfortable and we slept well. The bathroom was a little small but Ok. The location was very good but you do need a car in carmel. I will be back.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a street view

This hotel needs to be leveled and start over. The bedspread etc are worn out and the bathroom has been remodeled but looks honky. The bed creaks and mattress sags. Can't believe it has a AAA rating. I would never recommend it. We are staying our of the hotel , only to sleep there. The polis dirty and old.
