I really enjoy quick weekend get-a-ways to Carmel. I have a small dog and just about every Carmel business is dog friendly so, it's perfect! During previous trips, walking by the Carmel Lodge, it felt inviting - cute "curb appeal"... looked like it would be really cute, inside. Unfortunately, I was not happy with my stay at Carmel Lodge. The pictures on the website were completely opposite of the room we stayed in. The website boasts free wifi - we had better service from the hotel next door than from Carmel Lodge. The website also states a state-of-the-art alarm clock iPod/MP3 docking station... we definitely did not have that in our room. The room was quite-dated (overall), which can add charm - no charm at this Lodge. There was no fan so the fact that our room was right on the street made it hard to sleep. To boot, they had two spot lights directly pointed into the windows of our room (from the outside). There was no fan - now I know Carmel is a beach town, so a fan may not seem necessary but, it sure would have helped with the noise. We heard the pipes from the bathroom above us - every time they turned on the water. And, it wasn't a subtle noise - this was like someone was pounding on the floor upstairs, with a pipe. I was disappointed that the pet fee was $35 per night - that was about half the cost as an adult staying the room. At other hotels, we've paid $35 for the first night and $10 for the second night. To me, $35 per night seems a bit steep - especially for the value of the room we stayed in. If we were staying in a nicer resort, I might understand. The customer service at the front desk - when we checked in was awful. I felt as though I interrupted the woman by asking to check-in. Plus, I asked how late she would be at the front desk, should I need something - she asked, "Why?" Seemed like an odd response. We opted to keep our "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door all weekend- we really didn't need the cleaning or more towels. I will say - two positives: (1) We definitely appreciated the note on our door when we got home that evening letting us know that they respected our door sign but, if we needed anything to contact the Front Desk. I do not want my low rating of "Service" to reflect the cleaning services - they were very nice and said, "hi" every time we waked by them. (2) The location and maintenance of the outside grounds were GREAT! The Lodge really is in the middle of anything you'd like to do - I would just recommend keeping your expectations for the rooms and customer service low. I really wanted to like this hotel/lodge but, I will not return.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, it's always appreciated. I would also like to thank you for pointing out the positives and that the housekeeping staff was pleasant and friendly. On a different note I would like to apologize for your less than perfect stay with us. Unfortunately I did not hear of any guest complaints relevant to the issues you stated. I wish that you would have asked for the manager and discussed all your issues with me so that I could have attempted to resolve them right then and there so that you would have ended your trip and stay with us on a positive note. With regards to the fan; all of our rooms do indeed have fans, sometimes they are stored in the closet, so I am wondering if it was in there. I am going to double check every room to ensure that all the rooms have a working fan. Regarding the loud pipes; I am aware that this happened for a few nights and I looked into it and found that the culprit was that a sink valve in one of the rooms was not turned on all the way and the pressure when the faucet was turned on it began to make the pipe shake. It was resolved shortly after your stay. Regarding the front desk; I am very upset that you felt that the front desk woman was rude. This is obviously unacceptable and I will address this issue. I am going to assess the pet fee and attempt to come up with a happy medium moving forward. Thanks again for the review and please feel free to give me a call anytime to discuss some of these issues.
