“Hmmm... Want to love it, but I think I just like it”
We're locals and for my birthday, my husband knowing I love all things French, took me to le St. Tropez. We'd eaten at the previous restaurant in this locale- Mondo's- so the decor was recognizable but they did a good job of French-ifying it and it is cozy and modestly elegant.
First, the food was great. Delicious and beautifully presented. The service, not as great. Our server seemed aloof and kept looking everywhere but at us while we were trying to have a conversation with him about the menu. Then, he disappeared for long blocks of time- to have a smoke, maybe? We waited for looonnngg periods of time between each course- mabye 15-20 minutes- with no explanation, empty water and wine glasses and with dirty plates on the table.
By far the worst part was when I felt something caught on my foot and kind of gave it a little kick which dislodged some previous diner's napkin which had fallen on the floor and had been hiding under the table. It was one of the few times our server had appeared at the table and he actually picked it up and made like he was going to give it back to me thinking it was mine until I stopped him and said I still had my napkin on my lap. I couldn't believe it- if it had been mine, he would have actually given me back the dirty napkin off the floor. OMG.
SO, on the merits of the foord alone, we will return and give this place one more chance hoping for a different server and I think it will be a much better experience overall. If not, we'll cross this one off the list.
