It was my friend's birthday, and we were looking for a special place. We have several old favorites in Carmel, PG, but decided on Le St. Tropez. We walked around Carmel looking at menus, and decided this was a good choice. We skipped the prixe fixed menu although it looked like a bargain.. We made a reservation for later that evening for one of the booths. The interior is decorated with cheerful table cloths with yellow sunflowers and blues just like in Provence. We started the evening with a delicious Champagne Cocktail ($9.5). They brought out a crudities plate with olives, beets, hummus and grilled eggplant with a nice selection of breads. I had a green salad ($9.5) with goat cheese, small julienne vegetables, walnuts, and diced beets. My friend had onion soup, "the best in Carmel". It was loaded with cheese and he said was delicious. The wine list was impressive as far as I was concerned because they had a generous selections of wines in the $20-$35 range. We settled on a Pinot Noir from the Loire Valley ($30). My friend had pork loin ($26), and I had the duck ($30). My duck was delicious with a crusty exterior, generous portions, and liquor infused cherries. Very nice! We finish with an apple tart & coffee. Definitely a find for a special occasion. We'll be back!
