“Amazing food and flavor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

We dined here on Easter Sunday for dinner, per a recommendation from our hotel. We didn't have reservations, but waited for no more than 5 minutes. The restaurant is cozy, and the service is amazing. Our waitress (Kat) made the dining experience fun and relaxed! All the flavors were clean and the ingredients were extremely fresh. My friend had the vegan plate, which typically is not that great. However, I had food envy the entire time - the roasted cauliflower was to die for!

Go here next time you're in Carmel - I know I will.

“Outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

On our 2 week road trip in California, this was one of the highlights. We arrived at 7:15pm to an empty restaurant and were slightly worried but by 7:30pm, the restaurant was full. On the recommendation of our server we had the black squid linguine and roast chicken, both excellent. Corkage was $15. They make killer martini's! The service was friendly and efficient. Great value for casual dining and highly recommended.

“Fresh fish and a decadent flourless chocolate cake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

Passing through Carmel, we were recommended by a local to eat at Basil. On this chilly and rainy evening, I started with the soup, a chicken and kale soup, which warmed the soul. For the main course, I had the fish special, which was caught that day. It was delicious. For dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake with pumpkin gelato The pumpkin flavor was subtle, not overpowering. The chocolate cake was divine, slightly molten in the center.

The wine pairing was disappointing for both my fish and for the beef entree. That is something they need to work on.

“Fresh Ingredients, Quaint Setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

Our first lunch stop in Carmel. Service a little slow; interesting food selections. All local ingredients which were fresh and wonderful. I had a salad which was wonderful. Quaint setting across from a local wine-tasting stop. Friendly people like eating in your neighborhood. Worth sitting outside when the weather is wonderful.

“Definitely a place worth frequenting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

The three people at our table had the cauliflower cream soup, the autumn gnocci, the lamb meatballs, the shaved Brussels sprouts salad and the roasted beet salad and all were delicious. We also shared Pumpkin Cheese Cake with Vanilla Sauce and Rum soaked Dried Plums. The cheese cake was light, moist, and tasty and the rum soaked dried plums were incredible. I am not sure if they always put three on the plate but they did this time so we could each have one. The service is always attentive and very pleasant. Definitely a place worth frequenting.
