“Hometown Hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2010

We (my wife and I) recently visited the Monterey/Carmel area for the 2010 US Open. After a long ride to San Simeon along the Pacific Coast Highway we returned with a desire to take in a little night life and a good meal when we came across Jack London's. Although not a planned destination, it will certainly be one of the memorable parts of our vacation. Live music, great service, great food, and a vibrant atmosphere made it so. We were not the only out of towners at the establishment, but the owner's took it upon themselves to work the room to meet and welcome as many people as possible. The clientele inside of the facility was primarily local, and it was crowded. My wife and I travel quite a bit, and it is always a good sign to when you find a place with good food and good atmosphere which is frequented by the locals. This is especially true when you are in a non-metropolitan town such as Carmel. Beautiful town, beautiful people...Thanks Carmel, and thenk you Jack London's.

“It's a Bar !!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2009

I'm a local and walked in off the street with a few buddies to grab a bite... I used to hang out at the East End in Seaside (closed boo hoo) or catch a burger at Brophy's. It was a slow night, sports were being televised on all the TV's (I like that) and the menu looked like a good/solid bar menu... Ambiance (bar look & feel) was an A... Good selection of beer's on tap... didn't look at the wine list this time... Staff was prompt and clueless about the menu... Food: C-. Gumbo was basically just spicy gruel with unidentifiable pieces of stuff in it masquerading as craw-fish, shrimp and tilapia... Who could tell ? Next:
Tilapia with mushrooms and artichokes... looked good... no taste... some garlic, olive oil and salt would have been nice... The prime rib was also tasteless (a little smoke) and that was it... The food was uninspired to say the least... Carmel has a lot of B- restaurants catering to travelers... Jack London's is a C- and caters to drinkers only... have a beer and watch the game... go somewhere else to eat.

“Totally Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2009

We just came back from a weekend in Carmel and I had arranged a dinner for forty with Steve, the owner, ahead of time. The whole experience from sitting down with him to arrange the dinner, the emails it took to complete everything and the actual night of the dinner was so great! The gumbo was excellent, steak was done just right and the personal attention Steve and the service staff gave us was wonderful. The cost of everything, including drinks, was less expensive than the restaurant we went to last year, so we'll definitely be back next year.

“Don't waste the time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2007

This place sucks. Food was horrible, service slow, and the bartender was a jerk....that is to anyone who wasn't obviously a local (totally agree with previous poster). Was there after a meeting in Carmel with some business clients and we went to this Jack London's since we had heard of it. Bad choice. Wish we would have gone somewhere else. Food is WAY too expensive and tasted like it was a day old. Service was horrible. Just keep walking.
