“Wonderful views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

The units are basically two bedroom condos. They do have spectacular views (you can see Pebble Beach on a clear day) and very well appointed with good amenities. The main restaurant is good for a nice dinner, again with a great view. Service is good and staff is friendly.

Room Tip: Very close to Big Sur and Pebble Beach

My husband and I stayed here for a week while in the Carmel Valley. The resort is immaculate and all the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The room was very clean and updated and our daily maid was one of the hardest working people I ever met. This resort also has excellent views of the Pacific and is in a rustic setting, with buildings staggered up a cliff, and is across the street from the Pacific Ocean. It is within walking distance to Point Lobos Nature Reserve which offers excellent hiking along the coast. There is a Safeway Grocery store in a shopping center a couple miles north of the resort. Carmel by the Sea is just up the hill from the shopping center with its restaurants and quaint shops.

The resort has complimentary mountain bikes which were in excellent shape and well maintained. It also has a nice fitness center, 3 clean hot tubs and a pooI. I do wish that at check-in the staff would remind you what is available at the resort during ones stay. My niece found out they had yoga classes for a fee, but she did not know this till the evening before we left. We also discovered other amenities later in the week we would have enjoyed had we known.

The resort has some handicap accessible rooms, but it would be difficult to impossible to navigate the resort if one was in a wheelchair, motorized cart, or crutches, or has limited mobility. Many of the rooms have multiple steps to navigate to enter a room ( The resort was built in 1917 and the Hyatt took over ownership in 1999). The staff will give one complimentary transportation on a golf cart from their room to the lobby or the hotel restaurant. They really do everything possible to make ones stay the best it can be!

I will definitely return to this resort when I return to the Carmel area. They have been updating the rooms and ours was beautiful and the bed was so comfy! The indoor fireplaces were a plus for the cool nights we experienced. The maid even prepared the fireplace daily so all we had to do was light a match. The wood must have been a kilned wood. Our room did not get smoky as a read in a previous review. Thanks to all the staff and great management that made our stay a 5 star experience! Hope to see you soon!

Room Tip: Ocean view is a must!

My sisters and I booked a room for three. (The bad first). Arrived in the room to find two bath towels, two coffee mugs, two bathrobes, and no matches with which to light the fireplace. Room was dated...the 70's called and they want their rug back. Very expensive room and definitely did not feel or look luxurious. (The good). Attentive and friendly staff, good location, loved breakfast, great view from our balcony. Would go back for breakfast but would not stay at this location again.

My husband and I stayed two nights for my Birthday and I was very disappointed in the décor of the room it was so blah. The view was beautiful you could see the ocean from laying on the bed.
The rooms are very over priced I guess all you were paying for was the view. The room was very hot when we arrived the sun was beating in on the room I had to call and ask for a fan which they brought very quick .There were so may stairs to climb to get to our room that made it difficult to get to our room with our luggage my husband had to make two trips to the car when we were checking out. The sunset cocktail lounge is very nice view of the ocean and nice music in the evening but they stop playing at 10:00PM too early. The drinks were over priced $15.00 per drink. I would not go back to stay I would go back to have a cocktail in the lounge.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for our 3 year anniversary and even tho we drove about 10 hours, arriving in our room with the amazing view was all worth it. Check in was a breeze, we were able to park our car extremely close to our room which was nice. The staff was extremely friendly, and at just a phone call away, they were there ready to help and with a smile. Our view was amazing, ocean view, the room was beautiful and clean. The layout was great. It had a home away from home feeling.

It's kinda hidden, the only thing I would suggest is a little more visible sign of where the hotel is and when to turn but keeping it a hidden gem is fine by me as well. Also, be careful driving in, it's almost like a one way drive to come in and if someone isn't paying attention, it's an accident waiting to happen. When we get there our first day, just driving up the driveway we were almost hit twice.

Andrew, at the front desk was extremely helpful. Had a lot of great information about things to do and places to see as well as dinner reservation information to some awesome restaurants. It was my wife and I's first time out in Carmel and Andrew was able to provide information that made it a great trip.

We can not wait to go back!!

This location was a surprise. From the upper level of the two floor suite the ocean view was unobstructed. To be able to sit and watch the waves was great. We loved it. Then we went to the main lobby area, which was even better set up with comfortable chairs and a telescope. The whales were right there. In twenty years of living by the ocean, this was the best whale watching experience by far. The room was comfortable and fully appointed. The hotel service was unfailing and quick to respond to requests. This space was almost too comfortable to leave!
The only reason for leaving the 5th star off was the restaurant service. It fell short of the quality of the hotel itself, especially considering the prices. Especially for dinner, you will find something much better in Carmel.

Room Tip: Unobstructed view of the ocean is well worth any cost difference.

The view (full ocean) saved the experience. We were disappointed with the room - small, poorly-appointed (mostly shelving) and in much need of updating. No place to sit, just one desk chair (2 chairs on balcony, but it was cold outside). Use of fireplace filled the room with smoke and set off the fire alarm (both nights, so really it wasn't a fireplace room). No qualms with staff - all friendly and helpful. We did get a small price break when we checked out and I voiced our concerns, but we would not go back.
