“Absolutely Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

This hotel has the most stunning views overlooking the Pacific Ocean! I found myself just staring out at the ocean from my balcony. I ate a delicious breakfast on a heated balcony overlooking another gorgeous view! The rooms are cozy with plush beds and a fireplace in the room. This was actually a business trip - but I would definitely return for a romantic getaway or honeymoon - this would be the perfect place. The hotel is far away enough from the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions, but close enough if you would like to visit some of those tourist attractions. The entire area has magnificent, stunning views - you just can't go wrong.

We stayed for one week in a timeshare unit. Great location on an hillside - provides a spectacular view of the ocean. Because of the location, there are lots of stairs - between units, grounds and in our two story unit. A wheelchair would have some challenges navigating the grounds. Check-in was friendly, staff very accommodating - front desk appears to be always busy so you may need to wait. When you check-in, drive to the front, park your car (there will be an attendant), do not unload anything, after your unit number is assigned then drive to a parking stall near your assigned unit. Driveway is somewhat narrow but after navigating it for a week, it is manageable. Parking is plentiful. Unit is clean; housekeeping does a great job everyday. Full kitchen had all the comforts of home - full refrig, dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven, utensils, dinnerware, toaster, and coffee maker. Furnishings while dated, they were comfortable. Wood burning fireplace provided a nice touch to the cool evenings. Small deck provided a nice unobstructed view of the Pacific. Unit had a kitchen, safe, fireplace, sleeper sofa and full bathroom downstairs. Upstairs was the bedroom with a king bed, another ocean view and huge bathroom (separate tub and shower) with walk-in closet. There is no A/C. Depending on your "neighbors" it can be noisy with walking or running on the wooden decks leading to each room. Additionally, some mornings the reverse "beeping" of delivery trucks can be disruptive to a sleep-in. Landscape is very green and lush. We did take advantage of their fitness room (has several equipment options) and complimentary laundry facilities. We did not use their pool or spa tubs on the property - though did include a photo - the spa tubs look like it could accommodate two people. Great stay - we would stay again.

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands. It is a very unique hotel. If you cannot climb stairs, then this might not suit you. This hotel is perched cliffside above the Pacific. The view from our room was great. We loved having a fire in the fireplace at night. It was clean and homey.
The lobby and grounds are well kept and nicely appointed. I was very impressed with the staff. They went overboard to give us a tour of the hotel, and to be very helpful on several occasions. Although I have stayed in more luxurious hotels, this one suited us because it seemed to be part of nature, rather than standing in contrast to it.

Room Tip: Request an ocean view, it is worth the extra money.

Breath taking views from the dining and living rooms. Very friendly staff. Restaurant was very good but pricey. The view made up for the price.
The ocean view king room was small with no comfortable chair to sit in. Either you relaxed on the bed or used the desk chair. The carpets were stained.
I guess you pay for the view as the room certainly does not merit the Hyatt standard and are over priced.
And the "Resort Fee" , always bothersome, should be part of the price of the room - not an unlisted internal tax!

Room Tip: I would always ask for an ocean view room however on a higher level then we were.

This was our second trip to the Hyatt at Carmel Highlands in the past few months. Previously, we stayed in one of the hotel rooms. This trip we stayed in one of the residences (timeshare units). The property is fantastic. I'll be the first to admit that the furnishings and decor of the rooms are a little time-worn. I understand that there will be some renovation in the near future. However, the view from the deck of your room is amazing and the service is impeccable. There are wood burning fireplaces in all the rooms, which we loved. The main lodge is very elegant and there's some very good high end dining options with ocean views. There is a heated pool and jacuzzi.

Room Tip: For the hotel, be sure to ask that you're deck is not above the main road that leads to the hote...

The Hyatt Highlands Inn in Carmel, CA, is one of the best all-around hotel/condominium facilities I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Perched atop a hill just a couple of miles south of Carmel, the oceanfront resort provides absolutely stunning, panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Our 1-bedroom unit had a wonderful fireplace, & an unlimited supply of firewood at our disposal. With the chilly Northern California weather, we used it each day during our 4-day stay. The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable, with plush linens & pillows. The bath had a walk-in shower as well as a huge, 2-person jacuzzi tub. The full-sized kitchen had a dishwasher, stainless steel frig with icemaker, all the cups, glasses, & utensils you could want. Everything about this resort was first-class. Our large balcony looked out at the ocean, which was stunning. I can't say enough about how great this resort hotel is. I only wish I could go back to the Monterrey Peninsula twice a year!

Room Tip: Oceanfront with balcony (ask for top floor)

This was our second time staying at the Hyatt Highlands. We purchased our timeshare 2 years ago and this was the first time staying their as owners. We just loved our stay. The staff was incredible. Fred was our timeshare salesperson and gave us an update for 45 minutes, totally casual with absolutely no pressure and just did an update of what was new and if we were using our points to the best we could. Even gave us $100 to use towards dinner at the hotel which of course we did. The only and I say only thing I could find that was disappointing was that the Wi-Fi didn't work in our unit for some reason but that was no big deal since we could just use our phones if we wanted to. All and all a great stay!
