“Beyond the exceptional view, a disappointment.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

This hotel has the best hotel view I've seen, ever. Situated on a lush beautiful hillside facing the Pacific Ocean. Beyond the 'Carmel' factor and the view the hotel did not have much more to offer which would make it worth choosing, for the pricing they have. This evaluation is based on the pricing they keep. For this many dollars, the rest of the experience was a total let down. No extras except extra charges for everything. Not even a small complimentary water or chcolate in the room, no mini-bar, no breakfast buffet, ludcriously expensive breakfast - we paid 55 USD for coffee, orange juice, one overboiled and one undercooked egg, one set of french toast, and one set of sausage and eggs - nothing special in taste or serving to pay that kind of money. The quality of the food at dinner was very good, but - again - pricing ludicrous, and service not up to par for the level they believe to keep. A real nice feature was the open fire place in the room. Easy to lit, with real wood - amazing. The balcony facing the ocean was also nice, except for the noise from the street below. The warm pool and the hot jacuzzis also looked really inviting, which we never tried. The gym was very fresh and well equipped. I would not choose this hotel again, but would certainly pop for a coffee to enjoy the view.

The Highlands Inn ,Carmel California is a breathtaking resort overlooking the bay. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. Our room had a fireplace, balcony with an ocean view, king size bed, refrigerator, tv, and internet.

We had all the comforts of home, along with great service. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh supplies such as soap, shampoo and towels.

A night, room service would return with chocolate, and coffee.

We spent a lovely two nights at this stunning property. We have always stopped for a drink or lunch at Highlands Inn when passing through the Monterey/Carmel area since the '60s. Now that the facility is a Hyatt, it has been tastefully updated, maintaining the rustic, natural beauty of the area. A romantic and wonderful setting from which to enjoy the Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey area. A short drive to the "must see" Monterey Aquarium.

Room Tip: We had a condo unit, second floor, great view and large deck. It was great.

We recently stayed at the Highlands and were blown away by the incredible view of the Big Sur as well as the wonderful accommodations and cuisine. The facility is a hidden gem just beyond the small town of Carmel by the Sea. We booked a one bedroom suite which had an incredible patio that looked out through the trees to the ocean. Our room was filled with warm wood touches and a very plush bed. We did order a room service snack and drinks which were delivered quickly and prepared with great elegance. I really look forward to returning to this hotel again in the future. The dining areas were romantic and the staff was second to none.

The views and grounds are very impressive. Pacific Heights was great but you can also enjoy the breathtaking views by grabbing a drink at the bar.

Scenery, serenity & service is the only reason for the four star rating. This Hyatt property has seen better days. The rooms require new furniture and carpeting to justify the five star prices!

Room Tip: I can't imagine why you would stay here if your room didn't have an ocean view?
