“A beautiful little place”

We had a great time. The staff is amazing. The rooms are small, but beautiful and the bathrooms are luxurious. It was a romantic setting and perfect for couples. The staff added a beautiful bottle of wine for us to celebrate our anniversary.

We only stayed for one night which due to traveling down to Santa Barbara but in hindsight we should have planned a few extra days in Carmel because it's such a lovely place.

Upon arriving we were warmly greeted and the had valet parking although being Carmel it actually meant the car being parked across the road. We stayed in a deluxe room which was very spacious and nicely designed. The bed is really comfy and at night the place is so quiet that you are guaranteed a good night sleep.

In the evening we ate opted not to eat at the hotel but at it's other restaurant round the corner which I'd highly recommend as it served the best Bolognese I've ever had. We did have breakfast which was very nice.

Just a shame we didn't have longer in schedule but hindsight is always a good thing.

The resort was overpriced and not the best amenities. The drain in the sink was not working! The shower water was so hot! My husband burned himself from the water. I phoned to complain and they said the manger would be right up. ( He never showed up). The carpeting was dirty. They did supply you with a floor cover by the bed with cotton slippers, however they could remove the old dirty carpeting and put tile on the floor, as least they could sanitize the floor. I certainly would not recommend this facility to any of my friends. Truthfully I have had better room and facilities at a Holiday Inn.(at less money)THE GOOD THING ABOUT OUR STAY HERE,was a delightful restaurant a few walking blocks away, where we had the best dinner.

Room Tip: Stay someplace else.

We had a lovely stay at L'Auberge Carmel. We stayed in room 20 which is one of the 4-5 larger rooms and overlooks the courtyard. Our bed was very comfortable, lots of extra pillows, making for a restful night's sleep. Our bathroom was very large, about 14' long by 8' across. Large walk-in shower and soaking tub, private toilet area. They have done a lovely job providing modern day amenities in an older building.

Breakfast is included in the room rate, and it is delicious. Home made pasties, jam, a lovely fruit plate in addition to fresh fruit, juice, an coffee or tea.

Dinner at Aubergine is a unique culinary experience and should not be missed. Staff everywhere in the hotel were delightful and very attentive. Loved having two bottles of water in the car when we left for the day!

Room Tip: Look on-line. There are good descriptions available.

We had a lovely one night stay mid-week in this property, which has a great location and a fabulous restaurant. The service was very welcoming and warm in both the hotel and restaurant. The rooms were spacious, but the appointments were average when, for the price point, exceptional might be expected. The bathroom and toiletries were great, but the room itself, linens, etc. were just ok. The courtyard was lovely on a cool summer evening.

We stayed at L'Auberge Carmel for two nights to celebrate our anniversary. We found the hotel to be really charming, centrally located (but off the main drag, away from the crowds), and focused on service. The building is old and historic, so don't expect soundproof walls and modern splendor, but what they do have are good sized rooms (although not huge), large bathrooms, high end linens and toiletries, and top notch service. Our room didn't have a view, but the rooms are built around a courtyard which is pleasant and convenient for relaxing or eating/drinking outside. It was a little loud in the mornings as people woke up and headed off for the day, but it was fine.

As others have noted, upon check-in you are told about a $30 per night service charge in lieu of tips. That was a bit unexpected and does seem to nickel and dime you when considering the daily rate to stay there, but I will say that the service was good.

We ate at the restaurant for our anniversary and were made to feel special and well attended to. I know they provide this level of service and attention to almost everyone, but it worked! The restaurant is very small and very pricey, but if you're a foodie, it is a great meal and great experience.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others with the caveat that it specializes in old world charm and not modern luxury.

We had a lovely visit to Carmel with friends from LA up until we checked out from the hotel. My husband and I had stayed there once before and were taken by the charm of the hotel and the convenience to downtown Carmel. What a shock to have our experience destroyed by the rudeness, abrasiveness, and depreciatory comments that the front desk clerk made as we asked for more information about the charges to our bill. She was haughty and disparaging when all I asked was for an accounting of the fees. I was told that because I had booked the hotel through a third party vendor she could not even comment on our bill, implying that we were "cheap" because we went through a vendor. I could certainly understand that she did not have access to information provided by Orbitz, but it was more her attitude and defensiveness that spoiled our visit. Unfortunately, I will member her more than the stay at L'Auberge.
