excellent facilities, and amazing service - Andrew at reception - gave me the best Check-in service - polite and friendly and professional ....
Food is amazing as well and you feel like at home .. we stayed there with my 10 year old son and celebrated his birthday at the restaurant..and I was delighted I made this choice..

Carmel has character, l'Auberge has a lot of character. That comes at a price of $ 1600 for one night with our family of 4. Ok, this is the rule of supply and demand in action.
On top of that comes a service charge of $ 30 times two, which was not announced upon reservation; let's squeeze another $ 60 out of our already high paying guests; not a good feeling. Upon check out the front desk lady told me that this was in lieu of tips which of course I had already handed out during our stay and which were happily accepted. I would very much like to decide for myselve on tipping please.
Rooms are nice, beds and bedlinnens are great but the showers in both rooms had extemely low water pressure; there are clearly inadequate systems in place as other guests have complained abt this as well.
The bellman was great, the Egyptian man at check in was nice, the lady at check out was arrogant and the restaurant manager, Nathaniel Munoz, spoiled it all at breakfast.
Being from Holland and used to simple breakfasts of bread and cheese I asked for just that.
The bread was inedible and seemed old. I complained to the waiter ( who later turned out to be the restaurant manager). Without even looking at the bread he said this was impossible as bread was baked fresh every day. Well, not this bread so maybe you should talk to your chef. He refused, said he talked to his chef all day and new this bread was fresh and then simply walked away. I tried the Signature Breakfast Fresh Fruit; too bad more than half of it was not ripe. Pastry was greasy. So no breakfast then and off to the bakery shop around the corner.

Dear Nathaniel; you completely miss the point; I am the customer, I think your bread is inedible, it is not like I have been complaining to you about every little detail. It is your job to come up with a solution. I guess you actually believe you are the best maitre in the best restaurant in the best hotel in this world but you are not; you have no idea of what it is to serve people and with your arrogant behaviour spoiled my stay at the very last moment.

PS l'Auberge has no seaview from any room unless you look really hard through the trees and over the rooftops.

Room Tip: Rooms 28 and 30 are good but do not book them for a seaview.

We stayed there for 1 night , the hotel is beautiful ,the rooms are big (we had a king bed room) the staff are helpful , the court yard is really nice for Breakfast or just to sit and enjoy it. It's my second time in Carmel (last time I stayed at Mission ranch but this hotel is much better) and i will come again.

I have stayed at so many fancy shmanzy hotels across the world and at the end of the day I think L’Auberge Carmel is my favorite spot for a relaxing get-away. So first off, a caveat about what you won’t find here…L’Auberge is a small historic property in the center of Carmel By The Sea (great locations BTW) so it isn't overflowing with space consuming amenities like fitness facilities, business centers or the most mod rooms.

What you do get is a whole lot of charm and the very best and friendliest service imaginable.Rooms are clean and comfortable, bathrooms (with radiant heated floors) feel luxurious and the garden courtyard is a perfect place to sit and enjoy the delicious and bountiful breakfast they offer. Food is really exceptional here too and a meal at the hotel restaurant, Aubergine, should not be missed.

Really though it is the great staff that makes this place – they think of everything to make the stay extra special; to give it a feel somewhere in between the comforts of home and the adventure of being somewhere new. Thank you so so much to all you guys for bringing a little extra sunshine to my stays!!!

We stayed 5 nights at L'Auberge. It is a beautiful small hotel with 20 rooms that makes you feel like you could be in Florence. Wonderful service, charming staff, very European style of service and decor. The courtyard is beautiful, we ate breakfast outside daily but not until 9.20am when the chill of the Carmel morning hasd gone and the sun was coming into the courtyard. the tables have heaters for your comfort. The breakfast and service was excellent and they were even able to accomodate a gluten allergy with GF toast daily. Our bed was so comfortable, fabulous linens and pillows and our every need was considered from bath salts to fresh fruit, caramels, cold water replenished daily in our fridge and anything such as ice etc delivered in seconds. The bathroom had a beautiful big bathtub that could fit 2 easily. The restaurant is outstanding with fabulous service and 5 star cuisine, quite formal in service and presentation. The pre-concierge was excellent, her recommendations were all good from horseback riding to sailing and she planned our whole trip with us before we even arrived. The concierge at the hotel was equally helpful and charming and payed great attention to our needs. I would highly recommend this resort for a couple. It is not really a place to bring children it is very peaceful and children would be difficult. Our next door neighbor had a lovely toddler but it did disturb us somewhat. It is the perfect place
for a romantic weekend or vacation. Carmel weather is beautiful quite cool 50-60's particularly in the mornings and evenings, bring appropriate clothing. Shorts in July won't work, you will need a jacket and long pants and long sleeved t shirts.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the courtyard are beautiful no need ot get a water view

Carmel has many nice hotels, but none compare to L'Auberge. The lovely building has been updated just enough from it's original bones to be very comfortable, and the staff and service is truly first-rate. Quiet, with a very French-feeling courtyard to relax, the location allows you to walk easily anywhere in town. Breakfast is also first rate, and don't forget to have at least one dinner at Aubergine. Other than having to leave our Lab at home, L'Auberge is the perfect place to spend a special weekend in Carmel.

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms have easiest access to the courtyard.

What a truly AMAZING property in a beautiful seaside village setting! First Class accomodations and Top Shelf service all the way! Felt like we were in Europe!
The staff is so warm and welcoming (especially Ramy!) and saw to our every need and whim, making our Honeymoon stay so memorable and romantic- we can't wait to return! Champagne and snacks awaited us upon our arrival. The rooms are spacious and luxe.
The restaurant (Aubergine) was exquisite, with the Chef's selections and wine pairings and an elegant setting with phenomenal service as expected. Try breakfast in the courtyard, which was arranged by concierge.
Will definitely seek out other related properties as we travel!
