“Amazing hotel with amazing customer service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

We stayed in Carmel for a wedding and wanted to book a hotel for one-night, which is pretty difficult to do over Memorial Day weekend. This was one of few hotels that didn't require a 2 night minimum.

Overall, we were blown away by the customer service and attention to detail. Water was free (that's right, for once we didn't get charged to drink water in our room). Valet service was also included in the price. And we had a complimentary breakfast the next morning -- delivered to our room no less! The breakfast was delicious - eggs, toast and croissant, fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. Their version of a fruit bowl was NOT your typical grapes and melons, but they included strawberries, blueberries and apricots.

The most surprising part of the stay was when we got back in our car to drive home, and the valet had put 2 fresh bottled waters in the car. I mean, it was just great all around. Would highly recommend this hotel. While it's a bit pricey, it's definitely worth it in the end!

We stayed and purchased the sailing dinner package. I would not recommend that package. We were brought to the wrong marina but had an opportunity to talk to locals that pointed out the sail boat we would have been on. Don't do it! The locals said we were lucky to miss it! Rooms are vintage, outdated but I didn't mind that. Cool Japanese soak tub! Dinner package was excellent! Great young chef. Clean kitchen! Nice staff. It's a small Quaint Inn. Great wine list. Reception was wonderful. Edwin will give you a ride. He makes up for anything that may go wrong! I think I will try it again.

My associate and I stayed at L'Auberge for one night, and were immediately blown away by the hospitality of ever member of staff we encountered. George Nagata, the GM, was insistent that anything a guest asks for that the management has the capabilities to do, they will. We even witnessed Anthony at the reception desk on the phone with Fed Ex doing his best to get a guest's golf clubs shipped to the hotel!

Our room was a gorgeous two-bedroom, the only two bedroom in the hotel. The hotel mainly caters to couples, as the hotel was originally built as an apartment building in 1920's (there is an amazing history), so all of the other rooms have one bed and a bathroom.

The rooms are centered around a courtyard filled with an antique fountain, plants, and tables and chairs. There was a lovely turn down service in the evening that brought milk and cookies, and the paper in the morning.

You could not ask for a more generous staff and historical Carmel experience. Additionally, you must try Aubergine for the most incredible fine dining. Chef Justin Cogley uses local ingredients that he forages for on the coast - it is a restaurant experience you will tell your friends about for years. We did the wine pairing as well, which was outstanding. Each wine was completely different - bold reds to sparkling whites to dry roses...we were in heaven.

I highly recommend staying at L'Auberge when you take your next trip to Carmel. It is perfect for a romantic getaway in my opinion.

Beautiful place to stay- right in the heart of Carmel.
Polite friendly service, clean and comfortable. Efficient valet parking which is great as the streets are narrow and spots almost impossible to find.

We recently spent one evening celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary....we found L'Auberge to be very inviting and recognized this special occasion with a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room. This might not seem to be extra special to most who have been at L'Auberge, We felt it was wonderful. Edwin, was nice in making sure that our evening out and about was spent with F.Sinatra - what could be better? Breakfast was devine...have not had better "French Toast...........would definitely give this a great rating. Service was impectable....

Pros:
Excellent location, friendly service, yummy breakfast, clean, cozy bed and linens, cute courtyard, simple amenities that are appreciated like water bottles places in car, snacks upon arrival, cookies at bedtime, bath salt gift...
Car valet so convenient!

Cons:
Front desk staff could be better educated on suggesting area things to do with better maps, etcetera. We did better by asking other tourists or locals.
Carpet in room 11 needs changing. Nice wool carpet, but stained and tired.

I spent a recent weekend at this hotel specifically booking L'Auberge based on what I know of their standard for excellence. I will say, I was unimpressed. My expectation of service when paying more than $500 a night is that staff will be trained and well versed in the local area. That wasn't the case at all.

A light breakfast is included in their mandatory $30 service charge per day in lieu of tipping staff, valet, etc.

There are many amazing options for far less of an investment in Carmel. I will definitely choose another hotel for future stays.
