“Peaceful gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

We had one night at this special inn. The service was warm, friendly and inviting. It has a European ambiance...so clean, large rooms and beautiful courtyard. Breakfast ( included in the room price) was beautifully prepared and served. We wish we could have stayed forever! Convenient to everything in Carmel.

Room Tip: No pool or fitness center ( couldn't erase rating!,)

Centrally located. You can walk all over town and to the beach from the hotel. Service was beyond expectations and everyone was so friendly. The courtyard is a great place to relax after a long day or even start the day with coffee and the paper. Wonderful Old World charm.

Dinner was the best we've had this year.

When you have a busy schedule like my husband & me - work, kids, dogs, etc - finding time to for get-away weekend to recharge is almost a herculean task. And when we did finally carve out the time - needless to say, expectations were high! The L'Auberge meet all our expectations & did so with a kind, quiet, courteous, professional staff; beautiful surroundings; and wonderful rooms - all the perfect ingredients for a relaxing weekend. We stayed in 2 rooms actually (the original room we selected was not ready til the following day); a room w/a Queen bed & Japanese soaking tub/separate shower & a room w/a King bed and full tub/separate shower. Both rooms had very comfortable beds/pillows & views of the lovely courtyard. Even though the Queen room was smaller than the King, the size of the Queen room definitely had plenty of space for 2. The Japanese soaking tub was comfortable but different - I preferred the tub in the King bath. Both baths were well-appointed & very clean. I had packed bath salts for myself only to find that L'Auberge thought of that as well - salts right next to the tub. LOVED the heated floors in the bath! The service was unbelievable - every single employee was friendly & prompt - nothing was a bother. From the handmade caramels set out for you when you first enter your room to the yummy cookies (and card with tomorrow's forecast) left for you with their turndown service, you will not be disappointed with your stay here. L'Auberge is right in the middle of quaint Carmel - we walked everywhere (a wonderful change for us!) Also, the hotel was about 2-3 blocks from the beach - so nice to walk along the beach - couples, families, & lots of happy, lucky dogs playing in the waves. Perfect hotel, perfection location.....we are hoping this will be an annual trip for us!

We recently spent 5 nights here and it was an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the General Manager we knew it was going to be special. The staff could not have been more courteous, friendly, helpful or efficient. The restaurant was outstanding and certainly worthy of a Michelin star. The courtyard was charming and an ideal place to have breakfast or lunch or just a coffee or a glass of wine al fresco. We were in room 30 which had a partial ocean view. The room had a wonderful king size bed and a bathroom with under floor heating and separate shower cubicle and loo. The location was fantastic being very close to everything (shops, restaurants, galleries, the beach) but also nicely tucked away. Complimentary valet parking is included as is a very good breakfast. One small downside, which could be more of an issue in summer, was the lack of air conditioning in our room. Leaving the windows open could be noisy and closing them meant the room could become a little stuffy. That said, this small luxury hotel is overall still one of the best places we have stayed anywhere.

Room Tip: Rooms 28 and 30 are on the second floor and look out onto the ocean at the front and the courtyard t...

Smack dab in the village of Carmel this inn is small but charming. The best part of our experience was dining in their restaurant for dinner. Chef formerly trained at French Laundry, the beef cheeks were memorable as was our wine. Heated bathroom floors were also a nice touch.

This is a small hotel with all the amenities of a larger venue. The well appointed rooms open onto a quite inner courtyard, perfect for relaxing in the late afternoon. Its location is ideal for exploring Carmel and the areas nearby. All of he staff are exceedingly helpful and professional. One highlight is the restaurant and its tasting menu, which for us ranks as one of the best we have ever experienced! We would certainly stay here again when we are next in Carmel.

Absolute luxury and class.. Worth every penny...a testament to the expression"you get what you pay for."..I chose a queen room and was afraid that it might be small...not at all..We will return and as I've told everyone if you stay in Carmel it's L'Auberge Carmel.

Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: you can't go wrong. The rooms are even better than the web site shows.
