“Excellent boutique hotel on the main drag”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

This was a great hotel. We stayed for 2 nights in July. It's located on the main street so easily walkable and accessible to beach, shops, and restaurants. Carmel is small so everything is within easy reach. The property's parking lot was full so we scored a parking spot when we checked in right in front of the hotel. We moved it the next morning as there is a 2 hour limit and was able to get a spot in the hotel's lot which is behind the hotel. Checkin was easy and we had a room on the top floor. Not noisy and the room was a good size. It was richly decorated in red and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom was also clean. Lobby was great and barely anyone used it when we were there. Fireplace was handy as it was cold in July as the fog rolled in regularly. Breakfast was complimentary and better than expected. It's buffet style and located inside the adjoining Italian restaurant. Which by the way also has a popular $5 Happy Hour so check that out too.

Room Tip: We asked for a room on the top floor as we weren't sure if the bottom floors closer to the stree...

They are doing a fantastic job keeping this property very nice in spite of its age. Our room was spotless and well appointed, had an ocean view, the beds were comfortable and bathroom fixtures modern enough. The attached Il Fornaio restaurant was sufficient. The front-desk staff was wonderfully friendly and polite. One cannot beat the location, on Ocean Avenue across from Cottage of Sweets.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Pine Inn. The location was truly prefect and right on the main Ocean Ave. The staff was very friendly an helpful- and we really enjoyed our breakfast there the next morning! We both highly recommend staying here... the rooms are so cute and quaint; very cozy feeling!

My husband and I stayed at the Pine Inn for a local wedding for 4 nights in Carmel. We wanted to stay at their sister inn, the Tally Ho, but it was booked way in advance and I was told the Pine Inn was the same as the Tally Ho in quality, if not better. We booked a room with an ocean view, and balcony, King size at the Pine Inn. When we arrived we were discouraged to find that our room's ocean view was obstructed by rooftops and trees and we had no balcony at all, our room was very small and outdated. After discussing the Tally Ho's rooms with our friends, we found they all had huge, luxurious rooms with outside balcony's including chaise lounges and fireplaces, with an elaborate ocean view. We inquired at the front desk with "Tom" about this discrepency, mentioning that we were paying the same price as our friends. He said that he could do nothing about it, as they were full, and told us we were not paying the same price. Our friends had already told us we were. I went online and found that they were in fact, not full, that they did have king suites as we had asked for, and he argued that going online did not guarantee that they had rooms. He would not help in anyway, other than to try to argue that we were lucky to have a room at all. The following night they had a party on the patio directly below our room, and it was so loud it was as if the people were in our room. Our room was in the front along the street and we heard people, cars, etc. every night. The walls were paper thin and we could hear everyone outside our room, and coming up the stairs. I would never spend that kind of money again to stay at that hotel. We were lucky to get a parking spot in their lot of 21 spaces (they have over 40 rooms), and were told not to use our car or we would lose our spot and have to pay to park on the street. The have no elevator and we had to drag our bags up the stairs.

We were there only for the night so don’t have a lot of info to share……We stayed right above the Lush store and could tell it….but the fragrance wasn’t unbearable……Parking was a challenge…they have 40 something rooms and only 21 spaces, but street parking is free from about 4 or 5 till 9 or 10 the next day…….Would definitely come back when we had more time to explore Carmel…..

We stayed at this hotel about 20 years ago and decided to return with family in tow, having had nice memories of the place. It was WONDERFUL! The staff was so helpful...helping us choose a spa off premises, guidance regarding airport info, etc. Room was spacious and maid service was exceptional as well. Had a view of the ocean which was nice. It is a quaint, older hotel and I highly recommend it! The Italian restaurant inside the hotel was marvelous! The breakfast buffet was also great!

My husband and I had just one night to spend in Carmel and we chose The Pine Inn, based on Trip Advisor reviews. I agree with all the other reviewers.
Our experience: A staff person was ready in the afternoon and very early Sunday morning to move our very heavy suitcases - very accommodating.
Il Fornio Italian Restaurant downstairs - excellent amenity- great food, friendly staff.
The white linens struck me as very clean and comfortable.
Really enjoyed staying in such a legendary hotel that is over 100 years old.
