“The Best Hotel in Northern California!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

I have been staying at Lobos Lodge since the 70s and it has never failed to disappoint. It is quite simply the best hotel in northern California that I have ever encountered. It is incredibly quaint, layed out among beautiful gardens, about a 3 minute walk to the beach on Ocean Avenue, and a 1 minute walk to the center of incredibly beautiful Carmel, one of the world's true treats. About a 45 minute ride along the windy and heartbreakingly beautiful Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur, great restaurants abound for all tastes. The rooms have been redone and are amazing, with comfortable beds, fireplaces, desks for work and beautifully appointed bathrooms with no useless accoutrements. It is a stunning place, great for lovers and just for hanging out and it is the only place I stay in that part of the world. The attendants are wonderful and exude class, just like the rest of the town. The complimentary breakfast is to die for and the little snack and read area next to the reception desk is outstanding, with wonderful coffee and snack treats, everything one would want after a rough week in San Francisco or San Jose on business. The Monterey Fisherman's Wharf is 15 minutes away and John Steinbeck's Salinas about 45 minutes.. It is a wonderful place - I guarantee you will love it!!!

Room Tip: Any room is wonderful and park your car in the lot and leave it there!

We booked Lobos based on TA and asked for room 44 at the time of booking. We were delighted with the room, very spacious, airy. It was a little hot in the room but after opening the slide door to the balcony it cooled right down. There is a fan also in the room. There are stairs up to 44 just so you know if you have heavy luggage.

The hotel is close to everything on main street carmel and the beach and the 17 mile drive.

Breakfast is included but is small, enough to get started though!

We have been here before. As happened on our previous visit, the receptionist could not find our reservation (albeit we had paid, 7 months earlier, a one-night's deposit for each room). This was rectified when a colleague came to her assistance. We requested suite 37, as on our previous visit, but it was not available. Our double room was clean, spacious and comfortable and the property is generally well maintained. Lobos Lodge's location is ideal and we will happily return, again.

Couldn't be more different from a chain hotel. Rooms are big and feel very private. our room #26 had a balcony on ocean ave. Sort of a mini suite with couch, breakfast table for two and huge bathroom. I recommend it.

We spent three nights at the Lobos Lodge and really enjoyed the location. The large room was well laid out and we appreciated the feeling of space and the extra room to relax. When we are on the road for any length of time, we appreciate being able to feel "at home" in accommodation that is more than just a bed and bath. The high ceiling and fireplace added to that sense, and having a full sofa was great. The Lodge has a very unique configuration, adding to the sense of privacy and quiet.

Lobos Lodge is just a short stroll to the beautiful beach. Shopping and restaurants are just a stroll through the streets. We had a great Italian meal at "Il Fornaio" just across the street, with excellent service and at a very reasonable price. Do yourself a real favour and make a reservation at "Dametra Cafe", the best food experience of our 2000 mile holiday! This is Greek food for the Gods. We thank the Lobos Lodge desk manager for that recommendation.

The complementary breakfast is adequate with juice, fresh fruit and pastry and guests get to select a time from a range offered at check-in. Breakfast is delivered to your door.. The room had a fridge and coffee maker. The room was very clean, and there were several windows to open to get a good airflow. The staff are friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: 44 is large, private and well appointed. It has a sofa, fireplace and small balcony in addition to...

This hotel is larger than first appears, it has over 50 rooms spread over quite a large area. The location is great, probably the closest hotel to the beach. It is also convenient for shops and restaurants; you can park your car and walk everywhere. Our room was quite large and warm (on a hot day, no A/C). It could have used a ceiling fan. It had a small patio with a high brick wall (no view). The bed was comfortable and the bathroom/dressing area was adequate.
When we checked in we were asked if we wanted breakfast at 8:15, 8:30, 8:45 etc. We didn't know where or when we would be so asked for it at the 8:15 time. A later arrival guest was not offered the 8:15 time so obviously there was a limited number of delivery times. The following morning we were on the beach at our appointed breakfast time and expected breakfast to be left outside the room. We were told that was not possible as the birds would eat it, but if we had asked, the breakfast could have been placed inside out room. When I asked why we not given that option, I was told "we only do that if we are asked". What sense does that make?
When we said we were back, breakfast was delivered very quickly. However it was very meager, consisting of orange juice, a croissant and a small cup of fruit. This small offering allows them to advertise "breakfast included".

We had a lovely room with a small balcony overlooking the street. The room was clean and the bed quite comfortable. The room itself was on the small side but adaquate and the location was very nice. Short walk to the beautiful beach in Carmel. Very easy to walk to restaurants and shopping. Our stay was the beginning of Sept. and it was rather warm. There is no air conditioning but at night it cooled off nicely and was comfortable. Management was helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
