“Lovely location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

The Sandpiper Inn is a very homely place. We were lucky to have been given a ground floor room thanks to someone very kindly checking in with booking.com regarding my husband's walking difficulties. The location is 2 minutes walk from the ocean which allows for superb sunset opportunities. The only reason for one less star was the breakfast. It wasn't the quality but lack of choice. It was meat or veggie quiche. One variety of cereal and one flavour yoghurt. Now the quality of the food, home cooked, was good. But for the cost of a night's accomodation I simply expected a little more value for money. However don't let this put you off staying here.

We stayed 2 nights in this quaint hotel. Comfortable bedroom which was smaller than normal. Friendly helpful staff. Freedom to use Kitchen. Complimentary water from the fridge, afternoon tea and sherry.. Hotel located very close to beautiful beach. Nice walk to centre of Carmel where there are some lovely restaurants. Local residents very friendly

Room Tip: Didn't see other rooms. Ours was on ground floor at side of the property

This was the last stop on our California holiday so we decided to splash out for our last place and are so glad we chose the Sandpiper. We had room 5 which was lovely, we woke in the morning to the sound of the ocean and the view from our window was fantastic. The room was large and well equipped and all the furnishings and linen a high quality. We enjoyed the tea and cookies in the lounge at teatime and the fact you could borrow torches if needed to walk into town in the evening (Carmel doesn't have street lights so its very dark). We wouldn't hesitate to book again if returning to Carmel.

Room Tip: Look at the Sandpipers own website to see what the bedrooms are like before you choose.

Very cosy, friendly and special place. Loved the atmosphere and location (very close to the sea, and further down the center).

Got the C room (isolated little house) and we were really amazed by it.

Breakfast is great and the owners are really nice with the guests.

Room Tip: not in the main building and if possible the isolated house

We stayed during the first week of September. The room we were originally set to stay in was #7 but due to the door lock not working we were upgraded to a king room - room #5. Both rooms were very nice, but due to the size I would highly recommend the upgrade if you can swing it. The location is a far from restaurants, even for those who enjoy walking, but the proximity to the beach is worth this sacrafice. The breakfast was a bit limited but they were able to accomodate our no dairy or gluten diet easily and without notice. If you need something there was someone there to help, but if you walked past someone and didn't feel like saying hello, that felt ok too. Overall a great experience.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The breakfast is great and everyone is warm and professional. The rooms were very clean and I loved the decor---we had two queen ocean view rooms. The only though thing is that the walls can be a bit thin. But after 11pm, all of the people staying there seemed very considerate of that. It was lovely falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves in the most comfortable bed ever. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in room 7. The room was a little small, but we already knew that from the information on the website. We were pleasantly surprised by the ocean view, as it was better than we expected. Small bathroom, but very nice. The grounds are beautifully landscaped like most of the houses in that area. It was probably the best place we stayed at during our trip down the coast. They have a nice breakfast of hot and cold foods that is way better than the average hotel. Worth the price, to me.

Room Tip: Room 7 has a wonderful view and you can hear the sea with the windows open. It is slightly small tho...
