“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Stayed here for one night. Booked last minute and was glad that they accepted 1-night bookings even on a weekend...that was critical~! The location is EXCELLENT - 1-block from beach and about a 1mile from downtown shops and restaurants.

The service is great - welcomed by hostess when we checked in. Room was ready and clean. Requested the host (shift had changed) to start the outdoor fire pit for us during "tea time" (from 5pm-7pm) and he was more than happy to help. The tea time is an excellent idea for guests to wind down before diner....not a large selection of teas/cookies, but helps to relax.

Breakfast is from 8am-10am...per other reviews, its simple - cereal, fruit, OJ, yogurt, tea/coffee and a slice of quiche (ham/cheese or veggie). They also had a limited number of croissants. Overall the quality of the bfast was ok, but again, the service was great and it was just the right quantity/quality for us given that we were there only for 1-night. May have had to mix things up if we were staying longer.

Also, they have a nice selection of board games - we borrowed Scrabble and played during tea time. Water bottles are always available in the fridge. Rooms or guests are fairly quiet and respected each others privacy i.e. not too many loud folks to ruin a nice getaway!

Overall, you just can't beat the location. The ambiance is nice too and the service is great. Will definitely come back and maybe book early to get an ocean-facing room (where you can better hear the waves!).

Room Tip: We stayed in room 10, which is a corner room - cosy, does not faces the ocean, but has a gas firepla...

Stayed here in May. Nicely decorated and large rooms. Very close to the ocean. Great continental breakfast in main room with cozy fireplace. You can have meat or veggie quiche, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, tea and coffee that is all part of room price. Room prices are lower than most B&B in Carmel. Parking is never a problem. A wonderful property. Will stay there again.

Pros:
+ very friendly staff when checking inn, giving good advice on places to eat in town etc.
+ cosy and rustic, but a bit basic, rooms (no TV in rooms, but that was actually refreshing for once
+ sea view from some rooms, and a good location right on the beach (but quite a long stroll from "downtown" Carmel)
+ decent wi-fi and parking spaces

Cons:
- breakfast is good, but there isn't really that much too choose from
- tiny bathroom

The staff was friendly the inn was clean and rooms nice. Great value and only a block from the beach. Good breakfast as well. It was my fist B&B to stay at, but so much better than a hotel! We are definitely returning when we visit Carmel again!!!!

Perfect location, great price, beautiful views! Walking distance to the beach and the main stretch. Great breakfast and tea time snacks. Rooms are very clean and relaxing. Perfect getaway! No TV in rooms - which is refreshing. Friendly staff and beautiful grounds.

Room Tip: Room 5 has a great view of the ocean and beach.

The draw of Carmel is Relaxation, Peace, & Quiet. Days are full of walking through the neighborhoods looking at the homes, enjoying the beautiful, abundant, and varied vegetation, looking though the shops in the village, and having an excellent meal each night at one of the many fine restaurants. If you want a place to go with your children - go to Santa Cruz. If you're young and want to party - go to San Francisco. But, if you want to just relax and unwind, Carmel is the perfect place. This was our first stay at the Sandpiper Inn and we plan to return next year. Our room (12) was roomy and had a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was on the small side, but adequate. The breakfast choices were limited, but much to our liking. The staff were very nice and helpful.

Room Tip: Most popular rooms seem to be 5, 11, & 12.

We stayed in room #12 this trip and again the Sandpiper was great. Our 1st trip was here 24 years ago and while room 11 is our favorite over the 3 times we have stayed here we will stay here again, beautiful, quiet place, friendly staff!

Room Tip: 11 & 12 are our favorite
