“Delightful Carmel Lodging”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

The Cypress Inn is ideally located one block away from Carmel's main street, Ocean Avenue. It is a lovely property with numerous types of rooms to choose from, and although it is close to shops and restaurants, it offers considerable privacy. Staff are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable, suggesting restaurants and places to visit. Cocktails are served throughout the common areas, but we found the bar a wonderful place to relax and select from the many choices of wine by the glass. Our room was spacious and bright. The king bed was very comfortable. There was sherry and a selection of fruit waiting for us. Bottled water is supplied which can be replenished at any time in the bar. A plentiful breakfast is served in the morning, and is included in the room rate. This is a wonderful place to spend some relaxing time in Carmel. And bring your dog as well. Cypress Inn is pet friendly!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony for a special occasion. The rooms are very quiet. Even the ones on th...

We loved this hotel! Perfect location and picture perfect decor. From calling to book the hotel to our arrival, we felt welcomed and well cared for.

We selected a room on the ground floor , large room and beautifully appointed. Bed was very comfortable, lots of extra pillows and blankets. The shower had no pressure at all but we do respect and appreciate the effort to conserve water. We liked the glass bottles for water that you can take to the bar to have refilled.
The bar was friendly and a great spot for pre and post drinks. Breakfast was included and was very plentiful.
We are dog lovers but our Golden Retriever was not with us ...we did enjoy seeing dogs that were staying at the hotel, but the place is not over run with dogs, maybe 1 in 10 people have their dog with them.
There is a beautiful sitting area off the lobby - comfy chairs and a fireplace.
While writing this review, I am missing this hotel and the enchanting town of Carmel!

Room Tip: We had room 121 - it was perfect. Close to everything and quiet at the back of the hotel.

We stayed here with our two children for my birthday in June.
This hotel is so charming and centrally located I can't wait to return. We had a suite with a fireplace in the bedroom and french doors to the street with a small patio. The price we felt was very reasonable especially considering breakfast was included and rather good as well!

The bedroom can get a bit stuffy at night so we did end up using the fan and air conditioning unit ( which is a little loud). It also happened to be a very warm weekend during our stay.

If you love old world charm and a boutique hotel feel than you will appreciate and enjoy this hotel. We loved it!

This is a pretty historic hotel right in downtown Carmel. Its a great location, very easy to get to shops and restaurants. The off site parking is a block or two away. If there isn't space in that lot, you have to find on street parking which seemed a bit difficult.

The service was outstanding from all hotel employees we encountered.

The hotel is very charming.

Our room was quite small - but I think that's just due to the time the hotel was built. Its not a modern hotel. One problems was that we had a first floor room that opened to an alley on one side, and the street on the other. There is no air conditioning, so we had to leave our windows open, and it was VERY loud in the room from street noise. I didn't really have a great night's sleep. Nothing that the hotel did, its just the way the room was situation/time of year requiring open windows.

The breakfast was really good. They had homemade popovers, delicious almost croissants, nice jam, great coffee, etc.

They allow dogs on the property and provide a blanket so the dog doesn't sit directly on the furniture, and also gave us a dog bowl to use.

I would stay here again, but ask for a different room next time.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms that open to the street.

We have stayed her twice, both times in a lovely room on the ground floor along the brick patio. Service is excellent and friendly, rooms are very nice - not really luxurious, but very, very comfortable. There is a lovely terrace for casual gatherings or just a drink, and the breakfast that is included in the stay is very pleasant. The location is excellent - right downtown and close to everything.

I love this hotel with or without my dogs. The location is great. The staff is super friendly. And the rooms are comfortable. I have stayed in both the old and the new part of the hotel. Some rooms ca be on the smaller side, but the beds are comfortable. There is a wonderful breakfast in the morning which can be eaten in the restaurant or the front living room. In the afternoon/evening you can enjoy a bite to eat or cocktail in the courtyard (with a fireplace) or in the front areas. It is very homey feeling.

Room Tip: rooms facing the front of the hotel are brighter, but get a little street noise. Carmel noise, not N...

You know from the outset when booking this hotel that is has as much quaint charms as the town of Carmel itself - even down to the canine focus. This didn't detract from a nice hotel though which proved a good base to explore.
