“Wonderful hotel in downtown Carmel, park and walk everywhere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

This delightful, historic Inn welcomes and pampers their guests and their dogs. Spanish Colonial architecture includes a comfortable "living room" with piano, large fireplace and deep comfy sofas. Terry's Lounge offers a very nice, well-priced menu and bar; no puppies here. Protected, inviting patio with fireplace and heaters. Typical of an older hotel, rooms vary. Helpful front desk and reservations staff will help you select the room just right for you.

The Inn's location is excellent - an easy stroll to Carmel's awesome assortment of restaurants and shops. The Inn itself is beautifully designed and furnished for comfort indoors, in private or shared spaces, as well as the wonderful patio with heat on cool evenings. Food and beverages are exceptional, and the service is superb. Although our canine family members didn't make this trip, we had the opportunity to meet some terrific doggies during our stay. Highly recomended!

Room Tip: Second floor corner room with fireplace was terrific!

I love this hotel. It is a totally dog friendly hotel, and dog owners tend to be friendly people. Friendly people attract friendly people. The staff are super friendly! From the moment I checked in to this hotel, I loved it. As a matter of fact, I loved it so much that I had dinner seated right at the bar. The bartender who took care of us was a transplant from LA FOOD AND WINE and he was absolutely the greatest host for dinner we could ask for.
You guys make Doris very proud!

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs away from the street are quieter

Formerly owned by Doris Day this is a stylish hotel in the heart of lovely Carmel. Rooms a touch small but very well appointed with free Wifi throughout. Good sleep quality though some noise from street cleaners and garbage collection in the morning! Great free breakfast included in room.
Highly recommended

We stayed in Cypress Inn for four nights. The check in was a breeze, not to mention immediate help into hotel. Very friendly staff in reception desk, restaurant, bar, waiters, cleaning ladies. The entire experience made our stay magical. We absolutely enjoyed the lively energy coming from the court yard and the music which unfortunately is only 3 evenings.
Our room was the smallest room we ever stayed in and I never sow smaller bathroom in my life. However, we had better view than the room we booked and sacrificed to take what ever was available that day. The breakfast was a lot more healthier than in many other hotels I stayed with breakfast included. We really had a great time there too much to tell.

Room Tip: The standard room that was next to us on the left and the last room at the end was bigger and had co...

We walked in off the street to secure a room and the reception staff were more than happy to sort us out a room they showed us two. Sherry and fruit nuts nuts and water provided and a complimentary breakfast included in the price. Don't be out off by the dogs there are clearly designated areas where dog owners can go and that does not include the bar and restaurant which I have to say served excellent food and drinks. This hotel is part owned by Doris day and the memorabilia from her films around the place was a nice touch. What makes this place is the staff they cannot do enough for you. Would certainly recommend and is central to all the restaurants and shops in the lovely Carmel by the sea.

We stayed here with our 3 year old golden retriever and had a nice time. There's a $30 pet fee which is reasonable. Location was perfect, within 3-min walking distance of everything Carmel has to offer (shopping, wine tasting, restaurants). Staff was friendly. There were TONS of dogs everywhere, so clearly the dog-friendly message has gotten out.

Room was clean, well appointed and decent size, however it was unseasonably hot and there was no A/C nor was there a ceiling fan. Ugh!! We opened the windows but there was literally no breeze due to our corner location and since we were facing the courtyard (overlooking Terry's) it was VERY, VERY NOISY from around 4 pm till 10 pm. So that was disappointing. I recommend trying to stay in one of the ocean view rooms if you can afford it and it's available. Or call and ask for a quiet room and double check when you arrive. And the hotel staff should have offered a fan to us or just put it in there at turndown since it was ridiculously hot.

Last point that isn't a biggie, but worth mentioning. No extra doggie amenities were offered when we checked in (a lot of dog-friendly hotels have a bowl and bed waiting in the room when you get there, a nice touch IMHO) -- when we asked for a water bowl they brought one immediately to our room, but it just would have been nice to have it offered or waiting initially. Kind of splitting hairs, I know. :)

Bottom line, we'd definitely stay here again for the great location and nice dog-friendly atmosphere, but only IF we could get a higher/quiet room WITH a fan.
