“Great for dogs, excellent location, nice staff....kinda loud if your room is on the courtyard.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here with our 3 year old golden retriever and had a nice time. There's a $30 pet fee which is reasonable. Location was perfect, within 3-min walking distance of everything Carmel has to offer (shopping, wine tasting, restaurants). Staff was friendly. There were TONS of dogs everywhere, so clearly the dog-friendly message has gotten out.

Room was clean, well appointed and decent size, however it was unseasonably hot and there was no A/C nor was there a ceiling fan. Ugh!! We opened the windows but there was literally no breeze due to our corner location and since we were facing the courtyard (overlooking Terry's) it was VERY, VERY NOISY from around 4 pm till 10 pm. So that was disappointing. I recommend trying to stay in one of the ocean view rooms if you can afford it and it's available. Or call and ask for a quiet room and double check when you arrive. And the hotel staff should have offered a fan to us or just put it in there at turndown since it was ridiculously hot.

Last point that isn't a biggie, but worth mentioning. No extra doggie amenities were offered when we checked in (a lot of dog-friendly hotels have a bowl and bed waiting in the room when you get there, a nice touch IMHO) -- when we asked for a water bowl they brought one immediately to our room, but it just would have been nice to have it offered or waiting initially. Kind of splitting hairs, I know. :)

Bottom line, we'd definitely stay here again for the great location and nice dog-friendly atmosphere, but only IF we could get a higher/quiet room WITH a fan.

My wife and I have visited this wonderful inn over a dozen times over the last thirty years. In almost every way, it just keeps getting better and better. (The only caveat is that if dogs annoy you, you shouldn't stay here.)

The dining at Terry's Lounge is spectacular (one of the top places for dinner in Carmel, and that's saying a lot), the included breakfast is magnificent and the bar is the most socially active "watering hole" in Carmel.

After one or two visits, you'll feel like you're visiting family.

This is a dog friendly hotel (we knew this when we booked) and was so cute because of this (We didn't have a dog!!) Dog biscuits on the counter at check in and dogs with their owners at the bar. Really unusual and nice to see. Fairy lights in the courtyard in the evening are lovely add ambience, Rooms fantastic, complimentary fruit and nuts on arrival. Friendly staff. Fabulous breakfast (Part of our deal) Great location. Only stayed here one night wish it was more!!!

I went to Carmel because a friend of mine had tickets to their Film Festival and having never been there I was excited to see that it was everything I heard it was....quaint, clean, friendly, great restaurants and of course lots of films. You don't need to wait for the next Film Festival to go there, it is perfect for a 4 escape. A quick flight to San Fransico, then a 20 minute flight to Monteray. The Cypress Inn is the heart of this beautiful little town, perfectly located with a few minutes of everything that is if you actually want to leave the hotel itself. Nice rooms, great bar and gathering room plus an outstanding outside area nestled in a garden for eating, drinking, catching up with old friends, just the way you would like your home to be.yes, it is true what they say about Carmel, dogs, dogs and dogs. If you are a dog fan then bring yours but if you are not, the city is clean, dogs are under control and not once did I get dog hair on my clothes, a true test. Step back into a better time and visit Carmel and the Cypress Inn.

Upon arriving in quaint little Carmel by the Sea, we headed to the cypress inn for a night and landed up staying for two! Randy, who greeted us, was such a great concierge! He gave us a beautiful room and recommended many great restuarants that we really enjoyed. Our room was immaculate and decorated beautifully. Breakfast was fit for a king. Fresh fruit, delicious danish, scrambled eggs, bagel and much more.

I loved that Doris Day was part owner and that there was nostalgia of her earlier years everywhere. Everyone loves Doris Day, right?!!! I had read her biography many years ago and felt very connected at this lovely inn. The bar area, where we came for a night cap every evening, is named after her son. The bartenders were friendly and helpful. We took thier advise and went to big sur and had lunch at the post ranch inn. The views at this restuarant for lunch were spectacular! The food was good to boot!!! Every recommendation by the fabulous staff was spot on. Every one of them took time to help us and direct us through this lovely area in california.

The other great thing about this inn is that dogs are welcome. We did not have a dog traveling with us, but it was funny to turn every corner and see dogs!!! We got to see dogs do their tricks and just lay there at the table while their owners had breakfast. Anyone who loves animals is a good person, so I felt among great people the whole time we were there. I think it important to mention that I did not smell anything or see anything distasteful in reguard to the dogs. The inn was spotless.

I hope that we can get back to carmel sometime soon and would stay nowhere else than the cypress inn. What a wonderful experience. Not one negative comment can even be made! Go there and you will see!

Stayed here with family for a few days as part of my holiday to California. Staff very welcoming on reception and in the bar. We brought along the family pet who also enjoyed his stay. Buffet style breakfast was good with plenty to choose from. Missed having facility in the room for making a coffee or tea. There is a decanter of sherry and fresh fruit & peanuts. Found having to go to bar for drinking water a bit of a bind. My room was comfortable (211) but very dark as no outside windows. But overall I enjoyed my stay in this unique hotel & recommend it.

Cypress Inn is the type of place you find yourself going back to year after year. Maybe it's just to see the bartender who remembers your drink or the front desk help who treat you like an old friend returning from abroad. It's a first rate establishment. If you love dogs, and you should, be prepared to see them, well behaved and sitting by their owner's side. They are also soaking up the ambience of this renovated marvel. Rooms vary and that should be noted. This is an older hotel and space can seem cramped, especially in the bathrooms. Other than that, it's a lovely experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a fireplace. They tend to be larger.
