“Charming and so dog friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

My husband, twelve year old daughter and I loved this beautiful boutique hotel in a town that looked almost fake in its picturesque charm. We didn't have our dog with us but wish we did. There were plenty of well-behaved dogs and their polite and animal-loving owners. Our suite was roomy and well furnished and featured a huge circular jacuzzi tub. We weren't particularly huge Doris Day fans before we came but were more so when we left. The hotel has her DVDs to borrow for free, you can hear her singing on the PA system and you can view memorabilia from her long and admirable career in the public rooms of the hotel.

We stayed here on a drive to LA. We arrived and found a parking spot right outside. The main parking is down the road about 100 metres but there is plenty of local free parking (if you go another street away)
We found the front desk to be very friendly and helpful. Gave us a free map…pointed out nice places to eat etc…
The room was nicely decorated. I read some reviews here but they were from 2009 and 2008…I think since then it has been renovated. Our room had a flatscreen TV…nice gas fireplace and a well fitted bathroom. I will say one think though…it was impossible to completely turn off the fire and the air conditioning unit was noisy…We would turn it on before we went out so as to cool the room but then would have to turn it off once we were back.
The restaurant we really cosy…and the food was simple but excellent…the breakfast buffet was minimal but still did the job.
If you don’t like pets then be aware that they allow dogs…a lot of dogs…
We both don’t mind animals so we had no problem but just so you know
Would recommend it for sure

Room Tip: ground floor courtyard ws our room....but one upstairs may be nicer

Drove to Carmel for a celebration weekend and theCypress Inn created the best backdrop! It offered the Carmel Charm indicative of the area. We stayed in the new addition in a lovely well appointed suite. The personality of the public space was welcoming and delightful. The courtyard was wonderful throughout the day - complimentary breakfast of eggs, potatoes, pop overs and fruit - afterrnoon drinks - and the lounge entertainment at night! The bar and restaurant had the same menu with very accommodating service and delicous drinks.
You can't beat the location either - we never moved our car - walked all over and loved every minute of it...

we stayed for one night, had to upgrade our room as the "standard room" was just tiny - probably should have complained rather than pay for a bigger room, but hey I am English and far too polite...

My comments:
nice room once upgraded, love the fireplace and hot tub
Food in the bar was ok
the bar looks great and is very swanky - its a shame they do the breakfast in the bar as its quite cramped
very nicely presented hotel and good friendly and welcoming staff
never seen dogs in push chairs before - I kid you not

I would stay again

Room Tip: check the measurements if you get a standard room - also some rooms are on the street

We loved this hotel. The bar room, the sitting room and the outside patio were all so welcoming and enjoyable. The decor was fitting for the town and hotel - really retro but stylish. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Carmel!

We stayed 2 nights as part of a longer California trip. This Inn is in a great location in Carmel, the rooms are comfortable and clean, small bathrooms but everything worked. The breakfast is a very average continental breakfast. The bar and lounge area are small and not really set up for the number of guests and staff struggle to accommodate breakfast. One morning there was no room for us so we walked to La Bicyclette round the corner and had an excellent breakfast - much better.

This is a pet friendly hotel and there are a lot of pampered pets so be prepared...........however the hotel is very clean and the management team seem to have got the balance right so this did not bother us.

I stayed with a friend at the Cypress Inn for 4 nights. The constant barking of dogs in the property, and in the courtyard was very frustrating. We were told that a guest had been asked to leave, but one guest with 2 small dogs seemed to have little control over the constant barking of her dogs. We were in room 106, we had to open the window to cool the room down and night, the noise in the storage area outside the window made it difficult to have a continuous nights sleep. We moved (because our room was not available the last night), to an upstairs courtyard facing room for the last evening, much quieter, but there were not events being held in the library or courtyard on that evening. A guest even held her dog while getting her breakfast one morning, even though the entrance door said that dogs were not allowed. The location is great, the breakfast is very good, the staff was pleasant, the doorman upon arrival was worthless, but when we departed, a different doorman was helpful. We had scheduled afternoon tea, were running late, and they held it for us. It was wonderful and the staff handling it were excellent. A nice property, but I won't be returning.
