“Charming place and great innkeepers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

We recently stayed for two nights at the Carmel Garden Inn and really enjoyed the experience. The rooms were comfortable, well-appointed, with a strong WiFi signal (which my wife doesn't care about, but I do). We really enjoyed the in-room fireplace and garden and accompanying fire pit. We had friends staying nearby and they came over one evening to share some wine around the fire pit - it was a wonderful setting and good time. Breakfasts were tasty.

We had one issue with our room which Dennis remedied very quickly. He and Susan were also a wealth of information regarding local options for wine and food. All in all a great stay, made better by the short strolls around the beautiful, quaint town of Carmel. Our car never moved until we left.

Room Tip: The patio rooms are outstanding.

Thank you so much for your review. We chose to keep the wood burning fireplaces (rather than replacing them with gas) since our survey of more than forty guests stated emphatically the smell and crackling of a wood fire is so rare these days and romantic. We also installed three WIFI stations to make sure the reception is really adequate. Thank you for noticing. Both our bistro dining room and outdoor fire pit have been so enjoyed. A nice adjunct to just staying in one's room. Again thanks for the review and stayingwith us. Julian and us all. Espeail hanks from Dennis for your praise.

My husband and I stayed here for our 32nd wedding anniversary. It was the best! Susan and Dennis and Curtis and Laura were incredible. They gave us excellent recommendations on where to eat and go. They even gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate! The flowers and plants are beautiful as is the sunset and partial ocean view from our Orchid room. Can't wait to return! Thank you for making this celebration even more special!

My first review of this lovely place was titled "Almost Perfect." Not only did the innkeepers respond positively in writing to my few minor complaints in that review, but they actually fixed the issues I mentioned! I can't tell you how many times such things have been ignored by other B&B owners.

Our second visit had one planned and one unplanned night. The Inn was originally fully booked for one of the nights we were going to be in town, so we reluctantly booked one night at a different property. We were dismayed upon our arrival at the other B&B to find the room was not only not as described, it was unusable! In a panic, I called Carmel Garden Inn at around 4:00pm on a Friday to ask if there had been any cancellations; to my relief, they did indeed have a room that had opened up.

We rushed over to the Inn and were shown into a King Suite. It had its own enclosed patio and was a perfectly wonderful room. The sitting area with kitchenette was very nice, and so was the bathroom--but the mattress and pillows on the bed were the highlight. I've never had such a good night's sleep.

Our second night was spent in the room we originally booked--the Iris Room. This is the exact same room we stayed in the first time, and I'm pleased to say that there were no noises to disturb us in the wee hours of the morning. The bed was also perfectly comfortable.

Above all, my very favorite thing about Carmel Garden Inn is the obvious delight the innkeepers take in ensuring their guests have a pleasant stay. We have stayed in many B&Bs over the years, and they all have a more personal touch than hotels; however, the people here are the tops in terms of consideration and care of their guests. A warm, friendly, engaging spirit abounds here in all of the staff.

We'll be back as often as we are in Carmel, which is often!

Room Tip: The king suites have mattresses by Monterey Mattress Company, which are fabulous; however, we have s...

Thank you so much for staying with us again and recognizing we do listen. During most of my life I have noticed most people say things but do not really mean them or simply do not follow through with what they have said. The other thing I have noticed is so very many people talk at each other not TO each other. A dialogue should be a meaningful exchange of ideas and then take action based on the conversation. This has worked so well in my life and I am very fortunate indeed to have Dennis, Susan, Mary, Laura, Curtis and our wonderful housekeeping staff agree with me in this regard.

Our 2nd stay at CGI, nice room w/ real wood burning fireplace, the complimentary meals were great, they are obviously putting a lot of effort & love into the homemade muffins & the afternoon wine & cheese offerings.

we've been visiting carmel periodically throughout the year for the past few years now. every place we've stayed at has its' charming appeal to be sure- i mean you are in camel for goodness sake, how could it not be? but when we stumbled upon this place for our new years stay, i finally realized what it meant to have a true carmel experience: peaceful, loving, caring, kind, beautiful, serene, charming, quaint, cozy, family. all words i would use to describe this place. the rooms are extremely clean and incredibly comfortable (each with a wood burning fireplace?! i mean, come on!), the grounds and gardens are beautifully being developed and nurtured by dennis, and the food they serve is out of this world (if you don;t have some of the homemade granola in the morning, you will never know the ecstasy of what granola is supposed to be- and if you're lucky to have scones made for you one morning, forget about carbs and eat every single one- you can go for a run on the beach later. also, try the homemade beet hummus at wine/cheese hour = divine.) but the real charm and the one main reason why we will undoubtedly be returning, are the owners susan and julian, and the sweet staff that i now call family. their warm attention to making sure every guest is not only comfortable in each moment, but right at home in their home, elevates your carmel visit to new expansive heights. their love is what should make this garden inn your go-to resting place- as it will certainly be ours for many years to come...until we move there ourselves.

Room Tip: we stayed in the orchid room, which we loved- very spacious, quiet and a beautiful garden view to wa...

We all so appreciate your praise. I believe our Inn is indeed coming together, beginning to settle in. We do take huge pride in making a stay with us an experience. Decor, antiques, art, even good food and service...all these should provide the platform for an experience, not be the experience. As with a stage, it is after all the people who make the play, the experience, memorable. Thank you for acknowledging us!. Julian Susan and us all.

We spent 3 wonderful days in Carmel at the Carmel Garden Inn.
Conveniently located close to downtown Carmel and shops but in a quiet street.
The room was comfortable very clean and cozy. Staff is wonderful and very helpful. They serve delicious breakfast every morning made freshly in their kitchen. Must try the beet dip with pita chips.
