My first review of this lovely place was titled "Almost Perfect." Not only did the innkeepers respond positively in writing to my few minor complaints in that review, but they actually fixed the issues I mentioned! I can't tell you how many times such things have been ignored by other B&B owners.
Our second visit had one planned and one unplanned night. The Inn was originally fully booked for one of the nights we were going to be in town, so we reluctantly booked one night at a different property. We were dismayed upon our arrival at the other B&B to find the room was not only not as described, it was unusable! In a panic, I called Carmel Garden Inn at around 4:00pm on a Friday to ask if there had been any cancellations; to my relief, they did indeed have a room that had opened up.
We rushed over to the Inn and were shown into a King Suite. It had its own enclosed patio and was a perfectly wonderful room. The sitting area with kitchenette was very nice, and so was the bathroom--but the mattress and pillows on the bed were the highlight. I've never had such a good night's sleep.
Our second night was spent in the room we originally booked--the Iris Room. This is the exact same room we stayed in the first time, and I'm pleased to say that there were no noises to disturb us in the wee hours of the morning. The bed was also perfectly comfortable.
Above all, my very favorite thing about Carmel Garden Inn is the obvious delight the innkeepers take in ensuring their guests have a pleasant stay. We have stayed in many B&Bs over the years, and they all have a more personal touch than hotels; however, the people here are the tops in terms of consideration and care of their guests. A warm, friendly, engaging spirit abounds here in all of the staff.
We'll be back as often as we are in Carmel, which is often!
