“A unique experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2009

My wife (a very picky eater) and I loved this cafe. We were greeted at the front door like we were regular customers. We had the "Istanbul Kabobs" and the grilled salmon---both excellent. The owner played and sang throughout the evening and treated every table like they were the most important table that evening. I will definitely be heading back.

“Fun restaurant in Carmel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2009

Really a bustling place. We walked in without reservation and got the last table in the back. We selected the chicken kabobs (to be healthy) and they were a little dry. It came with a Greek salad that was smothered in white dressing-tasty but probably not the healthiest. The owner threw in a free baklava for dessert. The food here is moderately priced and simple-they have pizza, pasta, ethnic eastern Mediterranean. We would go back in a minute.

“TA reviews were right on.”

Based on reviews, it appeared that Dametra diners had charmed dining experiences so, we reserved a table for tonight. We too were charmed by a warm and delicious dining experience. It appeared that others were enjoying the same. We will stop here whenever our travels bring us to this are.

“Wonderful Evening - Beyond Expectations!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2009

My husband and I went to Carmel in December to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We did not make a dinner reservation for Friday evening, deciding we would walk around town to find a nice place to dine. We came upon Dametra Cafe. It was new to us so we were intrigued. While overlooking the outdoor menu, one of the staff came out and invited us in. It only got better from there!!! The cafe is small but beautiful with murals on the walls and colorful decor. The owner's and staff were so welcoming. They made us feel like we were part of the family. The food was Mediterranean and delicious. While chatting with the owner, he asked us if we were in Carmel to celebrate a special occasion. We said, "thanks for asking. It is our 40th wedding anniversary!" Soon we were serenaded . What a treat! We ended our meal with their pecan torte...oh my gosh, how delightful! Prior to leaving, we were given a bottle of wine for our anniversary. What a great end to a beautiful evening. We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant and plan on going back again and again.

“Like going for dinner at a good friend's home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2009

We were in Carmel for a couple of nights in mid May. It was Mothers day the next night so I decided that I should pick somewhere special for the lady in my life. I went on line to trip advisor . The # 1 pick was as far as I got. The reviews said it all, although I must say that they were so good that we thought they were too good to be true. I Phoned and made reservations! The following evening we arrived 5 min before our reservation. and noticed a few people waiting outside. Walked in, Wow, a very small restaurant, beautifully appointed, filled with totally satisfied, happy looking patrons enjoying their meals. We were immediately greeted by Faisal, the co owner. He greeted us personally and asked if we were locals or visitors. We mentioned that we were from Canada ,and that it was the last night of out vacation, he assured us that this would be the best evening of our trip. He said that they were waiting for a couple of tables to clear, and asked us if we would like a glass of wine. Faisal poured us each a glass of good wine and we spent a few minutes in front of the restaurant visiting others, many returning patrons (All without reservations) waiting patiently for a seat. Everyone we spoke to raved about "Dametra" We were quikcly seated, as were all of the people that had just walked up!
The meals , the wine, the service were all above our already high expectations. The service couldn't have been better. and Faisal was there , as a good host and friend should be when he has guests in his establishment. We had more than enough to eat and decided to opt out of dessert, in liew of finishing off our excellent bottle of Carmel Vally wine from the cellar. To our surprise a dessert arrived ,son la casa. and we were delighted at how tasty it was. As we were finishing our wine, Faisal took down a string instrument , that had been displayed on the wall and with a very excellent singer (who happens to also be a staff member ) serenaded us all. The instrument was an ud, Native to Jordan. This was the pais de resistance to the evening.
We live in Vancouver B.C. Canada .and have a large selection of excellent world class restaurants of every persuasion. I will state that Dametra is the best restaurant I have been to in many years. Very simple recipe Great food , Great service, and amazing friendlyness offered to all who are fortunate enough to walk through the door! Thank you Faisal ,Partner and staff for making us feel like family!
