“Cool Little Cafe With Very Good Food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2009

This little cafe in downtown Carmel is very charming and in such a fantastic location while out and about shopping in the area. We did not have a reservation and we were seated quickly which was nice. The little cafe is open 7 days a week from 11-11 which are great hours considering almost everything closes early in Carmel. The ambiance at Demetra is very colorful and festive.

We wanted something lite and simple since we were having dinner at Christopher's a few hours after our meal here so we opted for a Baby Greens Salad which was very good and we shared the Lamb Wrap with came with a nice Yogurt-Dill sauce for dipping. The Lamb was flavored perfectly and the sandwich came with a very good small salad with a pesto dressing which was the perfect accompaniment to the sandwich.

Our service was a bit sluggish, we had wait at times for water and it took quiet awhile for our meal to arrive once we ordered. I would definitely return again, would love to try one of their entrees with a glass of wine. The prices are very reasonable also for a Carmel dining venue. I think this place will do very well in Carmel for a long, long time! :)

“Dametra - worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2009

My wife and I visited this much reviewed restaurant with our daughter and were pleasantly surpised....we were greeted and after a short wait after our reservation we were seated...we order the chicken kabob sampler and it was really great...the istambul kakob was ok(the seasoning on the chicken was so good we should have complimented with something else). We were looking forward to the owner entertaining a bit but it looked like he was a bit crazy and we overheard him talking about being understaffed, this may have led to our dinner being a bit late...we had to check in a couple of times as tables that had seated after us actually received their food before us...overall a great restaurant we had a lot of fun and our daughter stole the show as she was screaming and carrying on....the restaurant is so lively it did not disturb anyone, if anything people were taking her picture and coming up and talking to her.....it was a very good experience and family friendly!

“Feel Good Atmosphere Wonderfully Delicious Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2009

We passed through Carmel on our move from Seattle and looked at the reviews of various restaurants and decided on Dametra Cafe and what a treat. We were amazed at the number of guests that arrived by 6:30 and the owner and his cousin (Faisal and Solomon) were committed to make all feel good. The owner serenaded all of us on the Oud as a guest was celebrating a birthday. The Greek salad and the special of halibut were amazingly delicious and a complimentary treat of Baklava was a perfect ending to a delightful evening. My husband and I are looking forward to making Carmel a stop so we can dine at Dametra Cafe again.
Make reservations. The restaurant is small, I believe he said 22 tables. Don't miss it!

“wonderful food, great employees, and even better atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2009

Liz and I enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much, we went back the second evening. The staff made you feel like family the moment you walked in the door. They suggested the perfect wine and paid constant attention to your needs. The customer service was amazing! Our food was great both evenings and we were always made to feel like we were the only clients! I would highly recommend this place if you want to leave with a smile and enjoy great food at the same time! I hope they are in business a long time...and the owner is cute also!

“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2009

There is a good reason that this is the top rated restaurant in Carmel. It simply deserves it.

The owner is a gracious host and the staff all the way down to the bus boy match his lead. When we arrived our table was not quite ready so he poured us a couple glasses of a very nice wine. While we waited I noticed how attentive he was to all of his guests, even sending many of the regulars home with what seemed to be a complimentary bottle of wine. When our wine glasses were close to empty and the folks at our reserved table were still having too good a time to leave our glasses were filled again.

The atmosphere is one of a dinner party amongst friends. Everybody is chatting back and forth from table to table, the staff is chatting everyone up as they make sure all of their needs are cared for. A few minutes after being seated the entire staff and many of the regulars broke out in song while the owner played a type of guitar. Everyone was off key but nobody cared.

The food was spectacular. There is a bit of a Greek flair to the decor and the name but the menu has selections from most of the Mediterranean countries. Throughout dinner the wine that they poured for us upon arrival kept flowing and it never showed on the bill. When asked about dessert we declined as we didn't have room for more than a bite each. Out came a bite each of one of the desserts on the house, exactly what we needed and somehow they just knew it.

Please do make a reservation or you run the risk of waiting up to an hour which isn't so bad as they pour a nice glass for you while you wait.
