I found Carmel to be just stunning. Just driving around the town and seeing all the unique houses and architecture was pure joy. The hilly town makes for very interesting streets. Some arevery very narrow and steep and look more like alleyways but they are actual streets with homes people live in. Really an experience.
The plaza with the shopping - we were on ocean ave - gorgeous little boutiques and bakeries. The windows of the shops are very tantalizing and pull you in. Once inside - you better have gold lined pockets though.
I fell in love with many items in various shops and they were all either in the high hundreds or thousands. There are some things that are more affordable to your middle class folks and its worth just browsing and seeing what you can find.
I loved it. My husband - not so much (apart from how pretty it was)
