The location proximity to Legoland is very good with a backdoor entrance of guests only. The view of the fireworks is the best out there since they are launched pretty much from the hotel parking lot. The shuttle drivers to and from legoland should you prefer that to walking are all very nice and service is very prompt and fast(although, the hotel wasn't crowded during our stay, so might be a bit slower during holiday peak periods). There is a decent outlet Carlsbad Premium Outlets a mile away which has decent stores and prices, just go online to get the vip coupon book or sale coupons free, and see whats there. Its about 30 min away from the san diego wild animal park, and just bit farther from the san diego zoo or airport with no traffic. Free wireless in hotel due to resort fee, and printer available in the lobby w/3 computers. Club lounge does have beer, wine, and drinks in evening, and some breakfast...food quality though is the worst of any club lounge i've been to so far with only 1 hot choice for breakfast or evening, both looking awful...but maybe it was just during my stay. With platinum status, got basic club access and better view room, not much else. Parking was convenient as reasonable cost i suppose since i didn't have to park at legoland. If you need tickets to legoland, i recommend buying the 3 month pass from costco as it is cheaper than a 1 day admission at the park. Aquarium for legoland was small and not really worth $10 admission price for members, but it rained 1 day of our trip so we spent an hour there. During a current promo, the membership pass also gave me a few free admission passes that expire in march of 2009 and free entry coupons for friends...I used the coupons to help some fellow guests to free admission for the day saving them over $200 bucks easily...didn't get the chance to use the free passes but might give them to some friends perhaps if i find someone going soon.

This was a very decent hotel. I would definitely not stay at the full price but I did get an ok rate through Hotwire though it wasn't that great of a rate. The rooms were clean, the hotel is new, everything is new, the gym looks very big, they have a pool though it's nothing special.
Two things that really did it for me were the beds: I think these were the best beds of all the hotels I stayed in. However, the wife thinks the beds were a little too firm.
One thing the whole family agreed on is the TV had the best reception by far of all the hotels we stayed in. I still can't believe how clear the pbs kids channel was. It was amazingly clear. The hotel also offered "free" internet in the business center located in it's huge lobby which is actually covered by the $12 compulsory resort fee. I don't know why I absolutely loved this hotel (perhaps because it's based in my favorite American city) but at the same time I must say that for the price and although it's very clean this hotel is overpriced and nothing special. Would I stay again? Not if I had to pay the full price.
Oh yeah, make sure you go and have some fresh bagels in the morning from the bagel shop at the factory outlets. Those bagels are delicious.

  • Liked — The most comfortable beds ever and the incredibly clear TV reception
  • Disliked — The compulsory resort fee.

Well I did not know what to expect. Ohio is a great state with wonderful landscapes. But, we do not have the majestic desert plain back drop that you find in southern cali. I loved the room (1202). Perfect position to survey the pool, the family, and the so cal valley. It was relaxing to sit on the balconey and watch the sun rise from the east (it is so different than OH) around 6AM. You have to relax in the whirlpool around 7 AM to enjoy the energy of the morning. State of the art work out facilities with a wonderful view of the terrace & pool. The service was world class. The bell and front desk new my name and always inquired about my day. The restaurant staff was friendly and the cuisine spot on for the value. Thank you to the staff for making it great. We can not wait to bring the family here. You can not beat the five minute walk to Lego Land or proximity to the shore. Make it great!

  • Liked — perfectly located to explore this aboundant region
  • Disliked — Two tennis courts would be nice.

We stayed here for two nights while visiting LEGOLAND. The beds are so comfortable and the bathrooms are so spacious. We would have had a nice view of the ocean had it not been so hazy while we were there. The balcony was nice, but it was a little too cool to use it this time. We stayed at the Grand Pacific Palisades back in 2000 and this time we tried the Sheraton because it said "private entrance" to LEGOLAND. Turns out that the distance from our Sheraton room was the same as the distance from our room at the Palisades, so the Sheraton is no closer to the park. It was a bit misleading, but worked out ok. However, the crowds at the "private entrance" were much less, and we started at the back of the park while the crowds were at the front of the park. Next time I will stay at the hotel (Sheraton or Palisades) depending on which one offers a better rate since I found both to be about equal.

Here's a synopsis of our experience at the Sheraton Carslbad resort...[by the way, my husband and I went there for a wkend getway...no kids, so we did not go to Legoland].

Lounge:
• we booked a "club" level room, which gained us access to their club lounge. the lounge served complimentary breakfast in the mornings and hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoons/evenings. this proved to be the most convenient part of our stay...we never had to leave the resort to get breakfast or coffee or water and were even able to partake in delicious dumplings and a glass of chardonnay before dinner!

Room:
• our club level room seemed quite large and was very comfortable. we even had a distinctive vase to greet us as we entered [see photo]. the bed was extremely comfortable and everything was very clean. in addition to the complimentary bottle of arrowhead water, there was also a coffeemaker with 3 different kinds of starbucks coffee. also, the mini refrigerator was empty, giving us the freedom to use it as we pleased. our room also came with a narrow balcony, which was a nice touch.

Bathroom:
• nice curved shower rod allowing for more space
• full stock of mini amenities including mouthwash, shaving cream, vanity kit, shampooo, conditioner, lotion, body wash and even a mini mesh body sponge!
• cool automated bathroom light that turned on when you stepped into the bathroom
• additional shower light

Grounds/Amenities:
• very well-designed...modern look and luxurious feel overall
• gym was bigger than at most hotels
• spa seemed to be immaculate though we did not use their services
• 24hr heated pool was beautiful and not too deep [doesn't even go to 6 feet]...perfect to lounge in
• 24hr jacuzzi was large enough for a small group of ppl to fit comfortably and not too hot
• patio area was expansive yet peaceful...provided perfect spots to read/nap and have cocktails

Restaurant:
• i believe it's called Twenty...the food and dessert were excellent, as was their wine list
• service was also excellent
• ambience was very hip...we felt like we were in L.A. or NYC

Location:
• easy to find
• very conveniently located next to Legoland and close to the 5 fwy
• about 5 minutes from the Carlsbad Premium Outlets
• few minutes away from Carlsbad beaches as well

Drawbacks:
• no line in bathroom to dry swimsuits [Sheraton Carlsbad, if you're reading this, you really should put something in the bathrooms for this]
• no robes in rooms
• no ipod docking station
• parking is not included...valet is $12/day and self is $8/day

Overall...we were very impressed with this Sheraton and are looking forward to going back. The whole staff was friendly and courteous and made every effort to make sure our stay was more than comfortable.

We loved how spacious and airy the lobby was. The pool/games area was very nice and fun. My spa experience was excellent. Our room was spectacular with a view of the ocean (and free internet access). Housekeeping was very accomodating around our son's naptimes and the concierge loaned us beach toys. This is such a pretty town and so convenient to all of the San Diego attractions. We will definitely stay at this resort again.

My grudge is with the "walk to Legoland" facility. Walking to Legoland is not as easy/convenient as walking from Disneyland Hotel to Disneyland. Hotel staff did not inform that we need to bring room key to go to Lego "private" entrance. We checked out from hotel and walked to Legoland. We couldn't get in. Felt very offended by Legoland. Nice stranger "borrowed" us her key, just to show the Lego staff. Also Legoland closed the "private" door whent he park closes, and you can't walk back to the hotel!!! What's the point staying at a walking distance hotel? We got stranded at Legoland. Then Legoland staff said we can get shuttle, but she hasn't heard the hotel BEHIND legoland. Called other hotel shuttle (didn't confirm if we belong to that hotel!), and good thing the shuttle took us back to Sheraton. What a trouble! Lack of information provided by Sheraton is unacceptable, especially when Legoland picks Sheraton as preferred hotel!!! Should tell us where to walk back or what to do when gate closes. Waste of time. I'd rather stay at other hotels and drive there to avoid the hassles. By the way Parking at Sheraton is $8, Valet is $12. Parking at Legoland is $12. I don't mind paying parking at Legoland if I know I got so much trouble with staying at Sheraton. Also Sheraton's flower field only blooms in April/May. Nothing to see during other months. Don't pay more for "ocean" view as the view is miles away. Hotel is brand new, and thus bed felt so new and hard, like sleeping on the floor. Room is very new, still smell the renovation. Fast check in, and check out. Hotel is lack of clear signs, like Parking, Legoland Entrance, etc. Pool/Jacuzzi, was told it opens 24 hours by front desk, turned out it closes at 9pm. Pool towels were provided but the racks were all empty :-( Building 1 has more kids and noisier, but closer to Lego Entrance, and front desk/pool/spa. Building 2 is further away, and no indoor pathway. Quite far walk. You can request which building at check in, subject to availability.

  • Liked — Brand name, clean pool and jacuzzi
  • Disliked — Pool lack of towels. Not so convenient walking to Legoland. Gate closed before park closes. Hotel lack of direction signs, eg Parking, Lego Entrance.
