“New, Clean, and Noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2009

Something about the design of this hotel seems to amplify the noise of the freeway. Even with a rear facing room the u shaped courtyard caused the traffic noise to come through our hotel room door. It was noticeable but If you find the steady hum of traffic soothing, this hotel is for you. The beds were fairly new and very comfortable. Its a 5 min drive to Legoland. If you are a light sleeper you might want to inspect the rooms before you commit. Breakfast buffet included make you own waffles and hard boiled eggs.

3 adults stayed on property for 2 weeks.

Location! (The Great Stuff) Proximity to I-5. Walking distance to Village Kitchen & Pie Shoppe, St Pat's Catholic Church, Vons. 6 block drive down Tamarack Ave to Tamarack Beach(great beach for kids and surfers--good parking, too!). Entire property recently rennovated. Very clean, safe property. Great internet signal--tested to about 1.3 megs. Three-floor property with efficient, centralized elevator for convenience and ease. Breakfast room located directed outside of elevator-allows patrons to use convenient room trays to export breakfast to room. Electronic keyless entry doorlocks with double locks and safety bolts. Extremely helpful front desk--used laser printer to print out Trolley tickets and boarding passes.

Location. (The Good Stuff -That could be better)
Although property is located just east of I-5 and could seem noisy to some, the rooms are treated with double-thick windows which completely shut out all outside noise.
Breakfast is plentiful with fresh tasting muffins(cranberry and banana walnut), very fresh danish(blueberry, raspberry, lemon, cherry and cheese-flavored) and make your own waffles. Apple and orange juices provided were also fresh tasting.

The hard boiled eggs were very small and the bagels were usually only plain or raisin; no onion, blueberry, etc. Oranges and apples only two fruits provided. Cereal was only fruit loops or raisin bran. We like raisin bran, but another healthy-type flavor would have been nice. No meat and no yogurt.

Location? (The Quirky Stuff)

If you are looking for a property where you will be hanging out at the pool, please go somewhere else. Although it is heated, the pool is very small and is located a stones throw from I-5, so the entire pool area is extremely noisy. (Remember the beach is only 6 blocks away.)

If you think you might want to occupy one of their two 2-room suites, here are a few caveats:

The 2 Two-room suites located on property that contain 1 K and 2 Qns. are great, but with a few quirks. The room is a triangle with a about 40% cut off for the K room. Each suite comes with a table. We took both and made a double large table in the main(2 qn) room. It also came with two chairs in each room. We moved three of those into the main room, too. The other chair, along with one of the end tables next to the K bed made a great impromptu computer setup.
Also, the 3rd floor suite(312) does not have flat screens(unlike the 2nd floor suite). The 2 Qn tv is placed in a dresser that is too low for decent viewing. We placed the TV on top of the dresser and it opened up the whole room to a viewing experience! It also added more dresser/shelf space for personal stuff.
Although both rooms contain a bathroom with toilet and shower, only the K room has a countertop sink with a mirror. The second sink is located as a wetbar in the center of the 2 Qn room next to the microwave and stand-up refrigerator. Also, neither bathroom has a fan in it(a leftover of it's original property as a Super-8).

Regarding pricing, the suites price just below that of two 2qn rooms. If you are a family or a group of 3-4 adults traveling together, I would recommend them, but with a few modifications to make the stay a little more pleasant.

We took my son to Legoland and booked the hotel 2 days prior to our trip. everything was a bit pricey and I found comfort inn, i must admit I was skeptical at first. we arrived early but the room was ready already. the whole place is clean AND you can purchase your legoland tickets from them for a cheaper general admission..it was really nice and convenient for us therefore we didn't have to stand in line when we got to Legoland. staff are friendly. the bed is really comfortable, you get a small fridge, microwave in your room. rooms look contemporary. we stayed on the 3rd floor very quiet facing the parking lot away from the road.
Breakfast is included with flat screen tv in their lounge. would stay here again. very affordable.

Overall an ok hotel. Excellent customer service at the front desk/ reception. We requested a room on the quiet side of the building, he gave that to us, but we could still hear the noise from the freeway, and other guest constantly slamming their doors. The walls between rooms are alittle paper thin.
Loved the self serve laundry room. very convenient. Breakfast was decent. Our room came with a microwave and fridge, which was very convenient as well. Parking was easy, and closeby.

  • Liked — Breakfast and Self serve laundry.
  • Disliked — NOISE

Amazing customer service across the board. My toddler daughter was sick when we arrived and everyone really was so friendly and kind - it made a difficult time so much better. Extremely accommodating and helpful. Spacious rooms with tasteful decor - very fresh and new. Large bathrooms a real plus. Laundry room for guests is a great idea. Parking lot well lit and convenient to building. Would highly recommend and will definitely stay there again!

  • Liked — Staff, new decor.
  • Disliked — Convenience of being near freeway also means can faintly hear in the distance - did not disturb my sleep at all.

*Located right next to freeway but VERY quiet once you are in your hotel room
*1 mile from Legoland and a few blocks away from grocery store and gas station
*Large fridge and microwave was a plus
*Fulfilling free breakfast with make your own waffles, orange/apple juice, coffee, muffins, bagels, apples/oranges and USA Today
*Front desk/parking lot was just a 10 second walk away
*Courtyard was nice bonus for the smokers who just had to open the door to the room and they were right there
*Room was reasonably clean and bathroom was decent sized, 3 total mirrors including one floor length
*Chairs and pillowcase had stains on them however
*No balconies, dont expect any nice views
*Safe, quiet, no frills, great location

Our family recently made plans for a weekend getaway to Legoland/Carlsbad. Not wanting to blow the entire budget on lodging alone, we booked at the Super 8 for two nights over the Labor Day holiday. PROS +The motel was conveniently located off of the freeway, and the rooms were clean, tastefully furnished and roomier than expected. The rates were reasonable and within 5-6 minutes of Legoland. CONS - The only downside was the motel's super close proximity to the freeway - which created a lot of noise on-site and was still slightly audible in the rooms, even with the double-pane windows. The pool was small (and noisy) with a view of the freeway, so don't expect anything spectacular. The 'breakfast' advertised refers to some Folgers coffee, orange juice, and danishes (which tasted a few days old).
But if you're looking for a clean/economical stay in the area, Super 8 is still a good deal worth recommending.

  • Liked — cleanliness, location, and cost
  • Disliked — freeway noise
