“Great Value for Families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2011

We stayed at the West Inn & Suites for 10 nights in August with our 3 children aged 9,6, and 10 months. We had a double king suite on the 1st floor with a roll in crib. This hotel is a great value for families. Rooms were clean and nice, location was great and the staff was wonderful. Breakfast is included with your room reservation and this is great for families. Selection included eggs, bacon or sausage, toast, bagels, cereal, muffins, pastries, some fruit, yogurt and regular breakfast beverages. On some days there would be pancakes or french toast. If you have children bring a small tupperware so you can have muffins or pastries for a snack later in the day. The hotel provides free shuttle service within a 5 mile radius which is great if your visiting the beach, Legoland and the Prime Outlet Malls. The shuttle service does get busy in the morning and evening so book your time once you check in.If going to the beach the hotel can provide you with a cooler bag, body boards, sand toys, towels and beach umbrella. Bistro West, the restaurant on site had delicious food and provides delivery to the hotel with a minimum order of $25. While their food was great, eating at a fine dining restaurant with small children is not my prefered choice. The hotel can provide a list of other restaurants in the area. The kids loved the heated salt water pool and could be there all day. Overall we had an excellent stay and the hotel meet all our expectations. We would definite return again.

This place was the coolest non-resort hotel. It has great rooms for families, and a lovely heated pool. The breakfast was great for a free breakfast, and the evening cookies were yummy. They also had a little "store" that you could get other ice cream novelties to buy as well. They also had a Bistro which served excellent food, and also a steak house on property, mini mart and gas station, all right there. It isn't an actual resort, but it has a great resort feel, and the customer service was the best we have seen in a long time. Yay for West Inn and Suites!

Room Tip: Put your requests in the comments when booking. They will absolutely get them done for you.

We stayed here and ventured to the Stone Brewery 15th anniversary by the Sprinter. The hotel seems new and is very clean and comfortable. The staff is very attentive and helpful. Free Parking. And there are two wonderful restaurants on the premises that we went to. The West Steak and Seafood is Fine Dining and pricey. Bistro West was a nice restaurant, but not Fine Dining. Delicious food here.
The executive king rooms are a decent size, and the bathroom was better and larger than most hotels. The shower was large with a seat and the water pressure/ temp was good. The bed linens nice- mattress firm, but the pillows were not good. Our whole party agreed. I have a horrible kink in my neck, so you might want to bring your own pillows.
They serve a darn good breakfast in the morning for free. It's not gourmet, but it's free and hot and tasty. The milk and cookies in the evening are a very nice touch.
We requested privacy and no room service for the day and they left a basket of fresh towels by our door. Really Nice! We did not hear any noise from the hallway while we slept, which I appreciate.
There was a flat screen TV, safe, fridge, sink, microwave and weird coffee maker I couldn't make work. They also have coffee in down stairs lobby in the morning.
Towels were available pool side.
Dogs are allowed here, but I didn't see one dog our whole stay.
The hotel was Full of children. The hotels runs a shuttle to Legoland, so that explained the 5:1 ratio of children to adults. But it makes for hilarious breakfast entertainment. Kids are so cute. Consider yourself warned. If you have kids, I think it's a good place to stay. They have pool toys and game room toys and lots of other children to play with.
I would stay here again.

Our stay at West Inn & Suites in Carlsbad was nothing less than we expected. From the moment we walked in the lobby the armatic holiday smell made us feel right at home. We were following 2 staff members who had come to work here from another favorite boutique hotel in Southern California so we were not surprised that this place was just as classy and service oriented. Our room was new and clean with luxury linens and accomodations. We commuted to Anaheim for a Disneyland trip and it was not a bad drive at all for a day! The location was easily accessible to the freeway and all of the other attractions that one might come to the Carlsbad area to do (beach, Legoland, outlet shopping, flower fields!) I loved the the clean feel and smell of the hotel, the computer room, and the wonderful spread at breakfast...wow! Loved the customer service from the front desk to housekeeping, Loved the underground parking. One negative was it sits right next to the I-5 but seemed to be insulated enough that we noticed no noise in our room. Can't wait to go back and try their restaraunt and pool and visit the flower fields. You won't be sorry if you stay at West!

Room Tip: From the looks of our tour of the hotel, I don't think there would be a bad room in the property...

I chose this hotel for a recent family trip based on the Trip Advisor rating. I am a frequent business traveler and have been on a number of Southern California vacations. I really don't understand why this hotel gets such a high rating. It is a newer hotel and is clean and good condition. The staff has clearly been trained to be friendly. However, it is a typical suites hotel and is sandwiched between the 5 freeway and freeway offramp on on side and train tracks and a power plant on the other side. The pool area is nothing special. The fitness room is a closet with a few machines stuffed in it. Breakfast and cookies are nice. Although, the coffee is weak . For as much as this place charges, I expect a whole lot more than a new suites type motel. Comments about this being a "boutique" hotel are clearly being made by people that don't understand what a boutique hotel actually is. They must stay at Motel 6s all the time (or in their trailer) if they think this place is a boutique hotel.

We found ourselves in Carlsbad at a hotel that was not living up to our expectations (the ability to sleep comfortably all night), so we needed to move that day! We found the West Inn & Suites rated number 1 on Trip Advisor and read the reviews; it sounded like just the place. Finally, all of our expectations were met! Nice, clean, comfortable rooms, and a very helpful staff. Even though the hotel had lots a families with children, due to the proximity of Legoland, the rooms were quiet and the hallway noise unobtrusive. The breakfast was very good, with a nice variety over the two mornings we were there. Bistro West, on the property, is excellent, and it's so nice that you can just walk over there, as parking gets a little crowded at night with the 2 restaurants on site. We would definitely stay again!
