“Informative and interactive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

I enjoyed learning about the history of music (styles, technology, etc...) over the past decade. Plus they have instruments that you can play with. There were plenty of kids of all ages enjoying it. The docent, James, was very friendly and helpful.

“Hidden Gem”

If you like the history of music you will not be disappointed. It is a small museum but well laid out. I loved the interactive features - pressing buttons to hear music and instruments and playing the instruments themselves

There is a wide variety of instruments and musical styles at this excellent museum. You can stay several hours and not hear everything.

“Hidden Away, Not to be Missed, For All Ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

Each year I take guests to the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad and they are always impressed. Children and adults young and old, find things to educate and entertain. Each year the museum gets better. There are now more instruments to play, more interactive exhibits. This year I played the mandolin and tried a set of drums. With the ear phones, the sound was just for me, as loud as I wanted . Others became DJ's in the studio. In the past I have played the theremin. During my first visit I was struck with the impact that musical instruments have had on the economy of this country. I still enjoy pushing the buttons to hear songs from different periods and learning more about the history of the guitar. What amazes me is the number of teenagers who are having a great time. This summer's emphasis is on the sax. You can see and hear the different kinds of saxophones being used today, as well as learn about the saxophone's history. A visit here can last from one hour to three, depending on what you choose to do. Tickets are very reasonable.

“Really interesting and fun place to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

Came here after shopping at Premium Outlets- it's really close by. The museum tells the story of the making of musical instruments in a very interesting and interactive way, learnt a lot. I did not know that the instrument makers made parts for planes in the 2nd world war- or that Steinway made sturdy pianos for shipping to war areas in the world and Korean war. Amazing! Plus the shop is great- guitar shaped cheese grater anyone?
