“Good Food, Fun Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

We visit Carlsbad about 4 times a year because we have family who live there. It took us about 5 years to finally eat at Coyote. Since then we go back almost every visit. We really like this fun, lively place. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor is a large patio with several fire pits, live music of some type almost every night of the week, Karaoke nights a couple times during the week too. It's fun to have a drink, sit and relax and just listen to the music and watch people dance. Karaoke night is a hoot!
The food is good, the service is great and the decor is slightly upscale for a Tex Mex place so it makes for a nice evening. We usually eat inside because it can get noisy on the patio, then we go outside, have a drink and enjoy the party atmosphere. They have large portions and everything from appetizers, burgers and specialty sandwiches/salads to full dinners that include Ribs, Rotisserie Chicken, Seafood, Pasta, along with traditional Tex Mex dishes like Tacos, Enciladas, etc. Something for everyone. Try their Steak Nachos...delicious! And, the salsa and chips they put on the table when you sit down is different but really delicious. It's hard to stop eating! This last visit there were 5 of us. We ordered a 1/2 lb Bacon Cheeseburger and a Grilled Chicken Club Sand. both came with fries and coleslaw, a large Grilled Chicken Ceasar salad and a small Ceasar Salad, both came with more ingredients than a traditional Ceasar usually does, like corn, chopped egg, black beans and a yummy grilled Tex Mex Cornbread, a Shrimp Pasta dish (really good!) and an order of Steak Nachos. We didn't have any drinks other than water and ice tea. The portions were large and the whole bill with tax & tip came to $75. You just can't beat that for a nice atmosphere and good food. One of these days we're going to try their Signature Webber Sandwich...a pulled pork monstrosity topped with all kinds of goodies and thin cut, crispy fried onion rings...it looks huge and delicious...a meal for 2! Try this place if you want to have a good meal and a fun evening while in downtown Carlsbad....you won't regret it!

“first stop each time upon arriving Carlsbad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Indoor seating and bar, or outdoors, shaded with umbrellas, or enjoy the warm California sun. Great menu, the Baja tacos are excellent. Just go there! and in the evening, gas fire pits, and live music. Easy to walk to from almost any hotel.

“Good Food but Great Music”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

My Texas honey and I were vacationing in San Diego and one night we went to the Coyote, a place I've been going to for years. As always, the food was very good, the service prompt and the prices quite reasonable. I had the roasted chicken with rice, salsa and beans and she had an excellent grilled salmon. We were happy, full, and on our way out when we decided to listen to the band playing outside on the patio. Two hours later and several coffees with baileys to take the chill out of the air, we left thinking that this was one of the most fun things we did on our trip. The band was great with many of the braver or more heavily intoxicated patrons dancing to riffs that sometimes went on for 20 minutes. I didn't see a unhappy looking person. Oh, the patio has gas fireplaces so even on a cool night it's pleasant and you can both eat and drink outside, something I wish we'd done. My Texas honey said, "Sure ain't nothin like this in West Texas. In fact, ain't nothin in West Texas." Truer words....This is a great place but listen to band and rock on.

We met friends here. Loved the patio! Can get crowded on patio.. My only complaint was how small the ladies room was.

“Really well prepared southwestern cuisine, nice atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

Great find. Nice comfortable, casual atmosphere. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well prepared the food was. The clearly know how to prepare and present excellent southwestern. I had the Chile Releno and wife had the chicken fajitas. Live music OUTSIDE on a small patio area if that's your preference. Definitely will return.
