“Home sweet Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

My husband 2 kids(ages9&10) and I now reside in Menifee,Ca. only an hour away. But with all we have going on it seems that vacations just haven't been in the books. We used to live in Carlsbad and Oceanside and are very familiar with the area. So when we decided at the last minute to pack up an overnight bag and head to the coast to get together with some old friends to celebrate my husbands 44th b-day.....that's what we did! Not having any idea where we were going to stay.We enjoyed a wonderful dinner.A friend suggested "Ocean Palms Resort" So we called and got not only a room for the night, but loved it SO much that we stayed another night. What a GREAT set up...the beach, service was SPOT ON!!! Pull out sofa, kitchen set up...Everything we needed...just like home.....love, love, love just being able to walk around town !! We will be back soon, hopefully in a couple weeks. I would highly recommend the Ocean Palms Resort.

Room Tip: We had a simple room #220 that was great, but I hear there are even bigger, and more luxurious rooms...

First and foremost front desk went out of their way to give us a phone call just to tell us when our room was ready. When we arrived the young man (Jose) at front desk was very nice and sociable. As we were walking to our room everyone had a smile on their face and one of the housekeepers even saw us walking past and stepped out of the way to let us walk through. When we arrived to our room everything was perfect! We had the Jacuzzi suite and pictures could not even describe how beautiful this place was. There were many amenities that made us feel right at home. There was even a towel folded on the bed in the shape of a crab. The shower was HUGE and the beach was so incredibly close it felt like paradise. This place really made us feel welcome and as a housekeeper I know what to look for and what kind of service to expect. This hotel went above and beyond in service and everything else. I will definitely be staying here in the future!

Room Tip: Jacuzzi suite is beautiful!!!

My husband and I recently treated ourselves to a weekend "away" in our own sweet village by the sea - Carlsbad, California. We checked into Ocean Palms Resort for the weekend, and we had an amazing time!
Our suite (The Maui Suite) was a beautiful, two bedroom suite on the ground floor right next to the pool and hot tub. It was tastefully furnished and very comfortable and cozy. There is plenty of room in that suite for a family.
The resort is literally steps from the beach and just a block away from Carlsbad Village. You can easily walk to all of the wonderful shops and restaurants that Carlsbad has to offer.
The resort is a lushly landscaped with lots of palm trees and flowers. There is a pool, hot tub, putting green, gym, laundry room and mini mart on the property. There is also an outdoor patio and fireplace, where we sat and enjoyed an evening cocktail.
In the future, we are going to recommend that our visiting friends and family members stay there. It is a delightful resort.

Room Tip: If you want a partial ocean view, request an upstairs room. The rooms at the front of the resort are...

We originally booked a one bedroom suite but found it difficult with our 2 year old daughter. We requested an upgrade to a two bedroom suite which the hotel staff was gracious to accommodate at no extra charge. Both the 1 and 2 bedroom suites were beautiful and the grounds are amazing. The pool is kept nice and warm and we were able to swim even in February. The hotel is close to the beach and within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. This was our first time in Carlsbad and after being there and seeing some of the other hotels I would definitely stay here again.

This place reminds me of classic California. Old school bungalows with kitchen and cheap furniture. Our room had a full size refrigerator, full size stove and oven, but NO microwave. I found that beyond odd. The refrigerator was massive, but not having a microwave was an inconvenience. Parking at this place is just screwed. I think the "free parking" is misleading. Yes, there are like 10 spots on the property that are free to use, but there are probably 50+ rooms/units. Check-in guy was cool and relaxed, told me to park along one of the adjacent streets. Considering we vacation on the CA coast a few times/year for the last 15 years, I can assure you that parking here in peak season would be a disaster. I am not even sure what the hotel would do, but I suggest you ask them before you book if parking is important to you. The room was fine, but definitely "old school". The bathroom looks like original from the 50's or 60's with mint green tile and sink. The kitchen cabinets appear to be plywood painted white, fine, but definitely bargain basement. The night stands, wardrobe, and "entertainment center" are low-end chipboard and show some wear. Same with the ceiling fan, blades are warped and falling apart. Carpet looks very tired, but was clean. The courtyard here is great, gas powered fire pits and fireplace look great. The pool and hot tub were very nice and clean. Overall, I liked this place, but would not likely stay here again because of the parking. The room can be renovated, and probably will be, but the lack of parking will be a chronic problem with this property.

Room Tip: Ask if room has microwave, ours did not. Ask about parking.

We just had a huge family reunion, and we all decided to stay at the Ocean Palms beach resort. We all had a really good time and hated for it to end. We were already planning on when we would stay at this resort again next year. The beach is across the street. We could go for long walks and find small seashells. There is a boardwalk to walk on along the ocean. The stores and restaurants are within walking distance. The rooms had kitchens where we could cook our meals also. Albertsons grocery store is a short drive down the street. There are also gas firepits to sit around at night and talk or roast marshmallows. Everyone had a great time!

Room Tip: We chose rooms facing the beach that had kitchens, which worked out really well.

Wow. Just... Wow. Just returned from a weekend at Ocean Palms Beach Resort, and I don't know where to begin! Truly amazing. From the first phone call when I spoke with Tina, until the ease of checkout with Miles, and everything in between was perfect. The room was beautiful, nice clean white linens, several different pillows, big windows, stainless fridge and granite countertops in the full kitchen. The grounds were lush and green, and well manicured. The people working the front desk were smiley and happy. And eager to help. There was always fresh baked cookies and hot coffee ready. The beach is across the alley, with stairs leading into the sand. And the beach is clean and beautiful. Be sure to catch a sunset out there! Just amazing. The hotel is also close to the village, so lots of restaurants to walk to. I can't wait to go back! I will send my family to stay there, and any friends, anyone who wants a beautiful time in Carlsbad for a great price:)
Also, about a mile down the road, there's a crazy good breakfast place called Beach Break... OMGOSH!! Soooo yummy!! And you HAVE to try the coffee cake!! You are welcome!! Ha!!
