First the negatives:

1. Do you like to sleep on the beach? You should, because half of the sand from it is in the carpet and furniture of this room
2. The furniture looks as though it was procured from the free ads on craigslist. Mostly broken, mostly ugly, definitely uncomfortable.
3. Moldy showers, hot water barely works, tiles falling off the wall in the bathroom (which doesn't have a fan, thus the mold and mildew- which also makes the whole room smell like a toilet)
4. Toilet clogs with every flush (even if nothing is in it)
5. The AC/Heater in the room is as loud as a lawn mower, and barely works.
6. Units are so poorly insulated that you can hear EVERYTHING that happens in the rooms nearby.
7. Units all butt up against the swimming pool, which is open until 11PM, so you get to hear that too (see #6)
8. Maids forget to leave towels, don't really clean anything, and seem to drag in more sand than they take out.
9. Asking for simple amenities like towels, soap, or coffee for the in room coffee maker is met with eye rolls from the staff, as if these items are somehow not included in the normal room- why is it too much to ask to have the maids replace the towels with clean ones?

The positives:
1. The location is great, right near the beach- in a great area of Carlsbad.
2. The exterior landscaping is nice.

The negatives list could have gone on and on, and really the only redeeming quality of this place is it's location. Definitely not recommended if there are alternatives.

LIKE #1: The outdoor shower pressure is set to "1965 Watts Riot". You can wipe off sand. You can also shred a head of lettuce too if you want to make a salad. I'm pretty sure Michael Jackson used this shower to become white.
LIKE #2: Location to the beach.
LIKE #3: Location to the village.
LIKE #4: The customer service is incredible: friendly, informative, and funny. They lent us boogie boards and chairs without signing anything or leaving even a deposit, license, or room #.
(Oh, that reminds me: Write me if you are interested in buying a gently used chair and boogie board)
LIKE #5: The grounds are lush and clean with grills and fire pits.
LIKE #6: The pool and hot tub change colors. I felt like I was in Puff Daddy's hot tub. And, despite initial concerns, I did not come out looking like an Easter egg. However, I urinated later that night and my pee was PLAID.
LIKE #7: Parking. LIKE #8: The lobby store. LIKE #9: Free fruit and danishes. LIKE #10: Free wi-fi (though weak). LIKE #11: Full kitchen, even in cheapest room. LIKE #12: Air conditioning!
Great value. I think we paid $125 or so for a roomy, functional, clean, temperature controlled, quiet, comfortable place near the beach and village. I'd give it more green circles if I could.

Called them Thursday night to arrive Friday. They made a major effort to work us in. Got an older studio that was clean and very nice. They were having there Christmas party that night and it was quite loud on the grounds. When we went in to the office to make a future reservation for next year, they offered us a free night for our inconvenience. What a great surprise! We've been coming here since the 80's and their customer service has always been excellent. Also first time we brought our dog, and they are very dog friendly. All and all a wonderful weekend,

We spent 3 nights at this resort and were quite content with everything. One of the very few that is dog friendly! The room was kept very tidy and had everything we needed. Okay....maybe we could have used a hook or two on the bathroom door! Our room was on the top right of the bldg. so we could see the waves on shore because of a beach access right there. It was walking distance to the "Village" shops/restaurants and had great places to walk along the ocean.
