“My favorite California village and beach”

Capitola Village is near paradise, with an old-fashioned charm lost in much of America. You can still buy locally-made ice cream and eat in on a clean beach. You can eat homemade tiramisu with a delicious coffee in an historic marker building, or your family can rent a house on the creek complete with canoe. It's the best small town, yet a short drive from San Francisco. We've been fishing from the Capitola Wharf and took surfing lessons on the beach. This place has it all!

“Skip Downtown Capitola”

This is a great place to walk around and enjoy the California sea air... but skip downtown.

The downtown area is cute so every once in a while we'll make the drive out here to walk around, stop in some shops, grab some ice cream, maybe have lunch with an ocean view. Around dinner it can get rowdy (I've witnessed quite a few bar fights in the downtown restaurants/pubs), but overall its safe.

The beaches are FILLED with people, so if you are expecting to relax, this is definitely not the place. The water is brown and dirty, so I wouldn't get in the ocean either.

I have yet to find a restaurant downtown that I really want to go back to. I think the restaurant owners are just banking on good location and not putting much effort into making good food. If you are looking for a good meal in Capitola... skip downtown and go to Shadowbrook.
