The place had it all, food, bakery & specialize coffee. If you wanted something for a quick bite for lunch or dinner they had per-packaged to go containers.

“Pretty Good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

This place clearly has a reputation, as shown by the crowds. Luckily the number system they've worked out is pretty efficient, It's usually less than a 10 minute wait for your number to be called. The sandwiches are good but not amazing , they do have a wide selection though. Expect to pay around $3 per bakery item, they all look delicious, but I've only tried the cinnamon roll, berry danish, and the chocolate macaroon, which were all very tasty. I haven't tried their coffee. Overall, their staff are super nice and the food is decent, but do expect to pay around $15 for lunch.

“WOW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

This place is fabulous. Their bakery selection is huge and if you like a wide selection for lunch this place has everything from hot plate meals, salads to sandwhiches. The bread is fresh, the ingrediants local and fresh and well the selection is one of the hardest parts to do here. If you want a glass of wine with lunch, they have a good local wine selection as well. Highly Recommended

“We didn't get it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

We dropped by Gayle's bakery because of a review in Lonely Planet from 2006. We only sampled bakery products. We truly do not understand the hype. The food was totally average - nothing to write home (or tripadvisor) about (well, except this) - but the line was long. What did we miss?

“An Awesome Place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

I visited here with a friend about a week ago when we came to Capitola for some "urban hiking." Decided to come based on the great reviews and because I can't pass up visiting bakeries. This place is absolutely amazing with the amount and quality of food and the quick service. We came for bakery items, but my friend also got a sandwich to go. There were a number of sandwiches ready made that looked delicious, salads, entrees, specialty items, etc. They have a blue plate special for dinner, different each night which sounds wonderful and would like to try some day. The bakery features yummy looking cakes, pies, cookies, pastries, etc. It was difficult for me to choose. I tried a slice of the princess cake, day old which was one of the best cakes I have had in years. The cake is covered with a marzipan wrapped frosting and has layers of white cake with whipped cream, custard and raspberry jam. Delectable! I also had a cookie and bought a sourdough/olive roll to go to eat with my cheese later as we toured Capitola. My friend had a bear claw which she enjoyed. The bakery was crowded but there are so many employees attending everyone and they are so well organized that we were served quickly at the counter. It is rare that I have seen that kind of quick service at an eating establishment. This is a large bakery so space does not seem to be a big issue. The bakery/cafe is pleasingly decorated with plenty of tables including a room for dining. I liked the table tops that were embedded wtih china plate pieces. The pricing seemed reasonable. This is a not to be missed bakery/cafe if you are in the area or even nearby, a destination in itself!
