“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We were at the Surfside in this past week. We timeshare swapped into a 2 bedroom 1 bath unit. Full kitchen (small) plus living room, dining area. Even a view of the beach. There is an walkway overpass to the beach (it goes over the Pacific Coast Highway and the Amtrak trainline). The rooms were pretty comfortable although a bit small. Actually the 'master' bedroom probably would have been better with a queen size bed than a king size bed so that there would be room for end tables on both sides. The bathroom was very nice -- included a jacuzzi style bathtub. Staff was very nice. We'd go back again -- though I don't know that we'd go for a full week, it does make a nice getaway though. Oh, and though some others have complained about the night noise from the train - we didn't find it troublesome at all.

Room Tip: Driving to the resort can be a bit of a chore as you have to navigate a number of 'highways'...

What a nice place! Check in and out was easy. Full kitchens and each unit has a BBQ. We had a great view off the deck of the ocean and a,axing sunsets, get an ocean view room. There are bicycles that you may borrow and go on nice bike rides along the boardwalk or to Dana Point Harbor.

Room Tip: Call in advance to try to get ocean view rooom

Thanks for the kind words! And we love your advise to others to call ahead for an ocean-view room! We are a timeshare property so our owners can call 3 months in advance for their room assignment. Our exchange guests can call 1 month in advance. And renters will know at the time of booking what kind of view they will have. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! Please come back and see us again. -Amanda Burgess, General Manager

This resort is older, but is clean, in a fabulous location, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. I went with a family member who is a head injury survivor, and has some difficulty understanding complex ideas. The staff were kind, gracious, patient, and really sweet. This made my vacation so enjoyable, and if they read this, THANK YOU AGAIN!

Room Tip: train goes by in later part of the evening....just enjoy the ambiance!

We stayed the 1st week of July, 2012. Our 1 bedroom overlooked the ocean, we watched the 4th of July fireworks from our balcony. The furniture was very comfortable, and clean. The rooms were nicely decorated. We cooked, using the BBQ and other appliances furnished for a terrific home cooked meal. We had two flat screen TV's, making the grandson very happy as he could hook up his X-box. We used the pool and jacuzzi which were also well maintained. Checked out bicycles and rode for miles, enjoying the ride, scenery and shopping. The staff answered all questions, and were very friendly. Parking can be a hassle in beach communities. No problem here, each guest is issued a pass for their underground parking garage. There is an elevator and plenty of carts making it easy for guests to take luggage and other items to and from their rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would definitely return. The only regret we have is that we couldn't stay longer!!! My compliments to the staff. p.s., our one bedroom was shown on the internet, when we arrived it was exactly as pictured. No suprises, Very nice.

Everything was average. There weren't any problems and we had a good time. Definitely go to the Monday morning meeting for some good info about area attractions. We ended up getting 2 for 1 whale watching the same day. Take out the free bikes to get a look at the beach and harbor nearby. The beach directly in front of the place is no good for swimming or surfing. You need to go down to the main beach by the harbor. One bad thing is the commuter train that comes by a couple times an hour it seems like. It's loud but quick.

I am an original owner(since1980's). I own the largest plan, 2BR 2BA End unit. A little known secret is that the 2BR 2BA end units on the San Clemente side are larger & more quiet than the units facing the mexican restaurant. Both bedrooms are HUGE, as is the spa tub in master BR. Large balcony off LR & MBR w/BBQ & table/4 chairs. Ceiling fans in BRs, 2 flat screen TVs. Free use of bikes & beach chairs/sand toys. You can catch the train to Anaheim for Disneyland, Angels baseball & Ducks hockey games or to San Diego for the Zoo, Chargers football or Padres baseball games from San Clemente or San Juan Capistrano train stations nearby. Whale & dolphin watching boats, jet skis, standup & regular paddle boards, kayaks, motor scooters, electric bikes & surreys are for rent in Dana Point & San Clemente. Go to San Clemente Pier Fisherman's Bar Monday thru Friday for the $3 dinners w/pano view & smell of ocean surf. Go to San Clemente 99 cent store to stock up on cheap groceries & Costco for more expensive items. Fish Bucket in Dana Point has some great specials, Tues. 2-4-1 prices w/live music on patio. The Strand at Dana Point(PCH north to Selva)is one of the most beautiful beaches & it's adjacent to Ritz Carlton. You can see backside of multi-million $$ homes from beachfront sidewalk. Not for elderly because too many stairs down to beach. Front desk at Surfside Inn ask for Agostina, she is the best and knows the area well.

Great service from Agustina and her staff!! A typical hotel does not have a full kitchen with all the hardware that's required to create a meal. You even get a grill in your patio, with the outdoor table in order to enjoy that sea breeze. Which is a great money saver when your on a tight budget that does not allow you to eat out every time. Will go back again in a heart beat.
