“Historic fortress”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Just ruins now but you get a feel for the original 17th century fortress built to commemorate the victory over the Tibetans.

“Just enjoy the scenery and it's culture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012 via mobile

This Dzong is destroyed by a fire from a butter lamp .. That's what I'm told by my Bhutan tour guide.. The journey to this Dzong was filled with fresh air , scenic beauty of the mountains .. Just watch your steps of the dog poo or whatever poo on the way ..

“Atmospheric”

This is the small ruined dzong and of itself doesn't show a lot, but the views, both near and far, are wonderful. Watch out for the sink hole!

“Another Dzong?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012 via mobile

Every town and city in Bhutan has a Dzong. But if you come to Paro, and you must, if you fly into the country, I would say yes. It's very old but restored as well. Most dzongs have suffered one fire loss at one time or another. Nonetheless, it's worthwhile seeing.

“End of the line...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

The Drukgyel Dzong is an interesting dzong as it has previously been damaged by fire and only a shell of the dzong remains. There is evidence of the tunnel used to transport water into the dzong when those who lived there were under attack from the Tibetans and the outer wall is still in reasonable shape. What was most cool was the location as it is literally the end of the road going north to Tibet. The little town at the end of the line is quaint and all you can see for miles around is wilderness which goves you a real sense as to how remote most of Bhutan actually is. Pretty cool to see...
