Great position, a wonderful structure and an interesting temple to visit. Bhutan's architecture is unique, Dzong's may be similar, but this one is set in a fabulous position overlooking the Paro Valley.

“welcoming , beautiful, authentic, what more could you ask for?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

I loved visiting this Dzong even though Paro was towards the end of our 15 day tour and we had seen many others. This like others is a working monastery, the thing that made this special was the huge number of young monks going about their business. Cleaning, playing etc and very cute. One of my most loved photos is of a very young monk standing in one of the door ways watching some older monks kick a ball around. The setting of this Dzong is beautiful also and the history is spellbinding. Very memorable and not to be missed.

“Standard temple”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

Depending on what kind of temples you visited already. In our case this was nr 9 so then we had seen a lot of better ones and is this one a standard temple.

“Great old Dzong, must see this.”

Ancient temple-fort overlooking the Paro Valley. This will show you what the Bhutan Dzong is like. Wonderful buildings and decoration. It is an active monastery, with many Tibetan Buddhist monks around.

“beautiful and impressive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Paro Dzong aka Fortress on a Heap of Jewels is a must visit place. It's a beautiful colorful structure. It was quite interesting to watch the very young monks (children) running around and laughing. Very good views of Paro Valley from the Dzong!
