“A new resort which doesn't quite live up to its potential”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

The main building here is quite lovely, and our room was very, very spacious and well appointed (the fanciest of our 6 different hotels in Bhutan). However, the grounds left something to be desired and could have been made more lovely with minimal expenditures and efforts.
The dinners were excellent but, because there are so few guests, there is a fixed menu at night. That caused a bit of a problem because one night the main course was beef, and we don't eat beef. The staff helped compensate by bringing extra servings of vegetables.

Cute and comfy resort on the river in splendid nature
I enjoyed the scenic setting, the stylish cottages and the excellent service. No complaints at all, and soon the hot stone bath and the barbeque pavilion will be functional too.

Room Tip: Cottage # 202 right on the river..

We were amazed when we were escorted into our hotel room. The room was huge--the bathroom vast--it even had its own balcony. Beautiful wooden decor, attention to every detail. Meals were served to our group in a private dining room and were excellent. Our last day the staff performed traditional dances for us. Everything about our stay was wonderful.

In Bhutan, most hotels don't have elevators or a good amount of hot water in the bathrooms; this hotel was no exception, but since this is just routine for Bhutan, you can't ding the hotel for this at all. Udumwara Resort had the best TV, with Indian cable, the best internet hookup (still slow but didn't time out on us like it did in the other hotels) and the best staff. If i ever get back to Paro, I will insist we stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: You are going to have to walk up steps, so if you have a hard time with it, try to get something as...

I must admit I was a bit concerned about staying at this hotel after I had seen some of the reviews placed on Trip Advisor. It is included under the standard package of hotels under the Bhutan tourist package.
We were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were incredibly spacious, new & clean. We cetainly had no heating problems & the setting of the hotel beside a lovel;y river was very picturesque. At one stage we did have problems connecting to the internet but the IT expert came & got the wifi working for us.
The resaurant was especially lovely with wonderful food (not just vegetarian) & excellent service. Our Bhutanese guide & driver had dinner with us one night & they were also very imressed with the food.
We would definitely recommend this hotel when visiting Paro.

Due to the hotel being very empty, rooms had probably not been used in a while. Staff was very helping though and got the heat working. Beautiful rooms.
One of the best meals throughout our stay and staff in restaurant is almost overly attentive.

To start with the good things about the hotel - the rooms and bathrooms are spacious and quite contemporary and the staff at the restaurant did their best to make us comfortable with the limited options that they had for vegetarian food.

There are several things that need to be changed now - introduce running hot water (the temperatures were -5 at night), install heaters that actaully keep the room warm - we had to ask for an additional heater, train the staff - we got 4 wrong number calls including one at 5.30 AM for no reason, the menu for dinner was exactly the same on 2 consecutive nights, the staff could not cope up with only about 10 people at the restaurant at a time and the reception wanted to bill us for material that was not consumed by us. And when these short comings are brought to their notice, the only response is some giggling!

It is quite clear that the staff has all good intentions but lack the basic training that they are entitled to. I would definitely avoid revisiting/ recommending this place to anyone.

We were transfered to that hotel after complaining for the overall standards of accomodation during the trip. It was supposed to be a 5star hotel at 800 US a night... Large rooms... freezing cold because of a tiny heater, not enough hot water for two people, not to mention a bath, decoration seems fancy but is cheap from close look, iron slate roof, depressing garden still unfinished... Doesn't match the standard, as so many places in expensive Buthan...
Nice staff, though, and a funny bar tender.
