“We'll go here again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

The Lodge surprised us with it's amenities, quality of the restaurant, and great old time ambience. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and when we arrived in the early evening it had a beautiful glow around it. Room was a one bedroom suite, nicely laid out, nothing too fancy about it. Carpets need upgrading, but the layout of the room was great. The restaurant was much better than expected for breakfast and dinner, and their salsa in the bar is great. Location is in the woods, not far from the city center.

Room Tip: I'd go for a suite over the standard rooms, much more room and a comfortable layout.

One's opinion of this hotel will vary depending upon your expectations. My wife and I typically stay at 4 and 5 star hotels. But we blew our travel budget earlier in the year with a trip to Africa. We were therefore looking for an inexpensive getaway. We have visited Cambria several times in the past and have stayed at both rental houses and hotels. The Cambria Pines was running a special $109 per night rate. We signed up for several nights.

The Good:

Cheap rate.
Breakfast was included. The food was acceptable but not outstanding.
We had dinner at the restaurant twice. The food was good (but not outstanding)
Clean rooms.
Beautiful gardens.

The Bad:
Tired property. Decor was out of the 1970s.
Case goods in the rooms were very dated and old.
Bathrooms were very basic.
No views.

The Ugly:
Poor insulation. We had a ground floor room. The noise from the room above was unacceptably loud. We could hear every footstep. We could hear the TV. We could hear muffled conversations.
No thermostat in the room. No A/C. There was an old fashioned wall heater with a broken thermostat. The heat was either on or off.
Poor water pressure in the bathroom.

Bottom line: the room was worth $109 per night. We spent most of the day out and about. But it was frustrating having to listen to the noise from the other rooms. We probably won't stay there again. If you are looking for a modern 4/5 star hotel, this is not the one.

Room Tip: Choose a second floor room. Avoid the ground floor.

Thank you for the feedback. You're right--our property is not a modern 4/5 star hotel. It is a unique, historic lodge with rooms and suites of varying ages and styles. As we continue to remodel our older rooms, we will add insulation to solve existing sound issues. We will also put a gas fireplace heater (with thermostat) in every room. All of our water fixtures are low flow by law. We hope you will consider returning to stay in a newer Superior Room or Deluxe Suite, both of which were designed to satisfy discriminating travelers.

Stayed two nights in an "upgraded" room that was long overdue to be renovated. Old furniture, carpet and fixtures. The bed was awful. It was a 1 bedroom suite package that included breakfasts and one dinner. If we were to go back, we would shop the rooms much more closely. I think they use the "special packages" to move the old inventory of rooms in the off season (and it worked).

Room Tip: Ask how recently the rooms were built or renovated. Avoid the older rooms.

My wife and I have stayed in Cambria several times over the years at different accommodations available the area and have mostly been pleased with where we stayed. In the past we read reviews about the Cambria Pines Lodge and decided to have lunch there. We were pleasantly surprised by what we discovered so we wanted to return in the future and stay a couple of nights. Recently on road trip in November we finally had a chance to stay at Cambria Pines Lodge, it was definitely a wonderful experience. We stayed in the newly remodeled suite #719. The room was spacious, clean, felt like we were in our own home. The bed and pillows absolutely wonderful. We always bring our own pillows to use, but for the next 2 nights we used the pillows provided by the lodge. WOW! The mattress was superb and was close to if not better than our own Latex mattress we use at home. The grounds were clean and well taken care of and the gardens a joy to visit and relax for a few hours. The lounge area was clean and the live entertainment during our stay was very enjoyable. The food served at the Lodge restaurant during breakfast and dinner was very good. We definitely plan on returning to this lodge on a regular basis.

Room Tip: Ask for the newly upgraded rooms. As we understand it from other guests at the Lodge, not all the ro...

We have stayed at other motels in the Cambria area, but somehow missed this one. Our family of seven wanted a short get away before Thanksgiving and Cambria Pines Lodge did not disappoint. It had the "wow" feature for us, large clean room, convenient to all attractions, and staff very friendly and attended to our needs quickly. We did not realize they have a European Christmas Market and looking forward to that next year. The grounds are well maintained and a delight to just stroll with my wife.

We just got back from a two night stay at the Cambria Pines Lodge. Our lodge room seemed newly renovated, was quite nice (with a gas fireplace and small patio), a very comfortable bed and a large, clean bathroom. We had a steak dinner at the restaurant and the filet was wonderful (house Cab Sav is OK at best. Go for an upgrade). Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I will stay there again gladly!! And do take a walk through the gardens - very peaceful.

We got an online deal for 2 nights plus a 2 for 1 dinner. The staff that checked us in was very nice and we received an upstairs room as requested. The carpet at the entry was frayed. It needs upkeep.

Room Tip: Get an upstairs room as we have stayed here before and been kept up at night by loud upstairs people...
