This is a funny little B&B in a great little town.
I booked this after reading rave reviews on this website. I perhaps should have consulted with my husband before booking as we established that he doesn't cope very well without a TV or radio (even when he's in a foreign country!)
We had the San Simeon room. Very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom.
I wouldn't recommend this room for anyone who is in the 'new' stage of a relationship and is still shy about their partner hearing them in the toilet! The bathroom wasn't as sound proof as we were used to (but we've married 6 years so it really wasn't a big deal!)
The room is on a bit of a lean, I noticed this when getting into bed, I could have rolled over to the window.
It is an old building, so I guess this can be expected!
The breakfasts were incredible for two reasons, 1. The food was delicious and much better than I expected (even though I'd read the reviews)
and 2. The other travellers we met at breakfast honestly made our entire US trip! There was this great couple from Fresno who gave us advice on driving back up to Monterey, a beautiful mother and daughter from Minnesota (we fell in love with her accent), a quartet from Boston who'd driven from Seattle and a mother and daughter from Phoenix. We were just so impressed with the other guests!
I guess this is the big plus of a B&B, the people you meet.
My husband found Cambria a bit quiet for his liking, but that's just him. I thought it was a lovely little town and would return (perhaps with another man!) In saying that, he was so happy to have met those other travellers, so I think that made up in some part for the lack of TV!
We were close to Hearst Castle too.
I don't know if this is a negative, but I thought I should mention it.
We could hear a lot of what went on in the bedroom directly above us. It was kind of funny at first, we'd never been in that situation before, but if you are in the room above San Simeon just be mindful that the guests below you can hear everything! I know it's a romantic spot, and we wouldn't have complained about it but it was interesting at breakfast the next morning as we looked around at the various guests!
I was pretty ill while we were there, so perhaps the other guests were kept awake with my coughing but were too polite to say anything!
I'd definitely recommend this B&B for anyone who wanted a really relaxing, quiet weekend away from life's stresses. Cambria is a funny little town with some fantastic op/antique shops, nice food and great weather.
The breakfasts are delicious, we missed the wine and nibbles each evening but I heard they too were great.
