“Lovely location; friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

We were fortunate to get a great deal on a "Superior Ocean View King with Balcony".
The whole Inn had been recently renovated, so everything was fresh and clean. Our view was, as advertised, "superior". We were directly across the street from the pounding surf and, being a corner unit, had a southern view of the ocean, as well as a western view. Pretty incredible!
The reasons for 4 stars instead of 5:
1) the sofa and chairs were very low, so if you wanted to eat at the table, you felt like a little kid at the adults' table. (And we're far from short. I'm 5'10", hubby is 6'2").
2) the breakfast was minimal (coffee, juice, muffin or egg and fresh fruit). Not particularly filling. The second morning, they forgot to bring our breakfast, so we had to catch the girl who was delivering them and she took care of it right away.
3) the room lacked electric outlets and lights. One couldn't read on the sofa, because there was no light there. Nor could you plug in a PC, because there were no outlets anywhere near the table.
4) There is a room fan, but no air conditioning, so I see that as a problem for summer travelers. We traveled in December, so it wasn't an issue for us.
The room was large, yet cozy. It had a fireplace as well as a heater. The toilet and bathtub/shower were separate from the dressing area, which was nice. And there was abundant storage....love the shelves in the closet. There was a refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker built in to the dresser.
In the evening, they offer wine, cheese and crackers in the lobby and, in the hallway, coffee and hot water for tea is available at all times. A nice touch!

The service was 90% fabulous!! Laura and Morgan were genuinely nice in 1. getting my reservation set up and 2. giving great pointers on what to see and do in Cambria which were spot on! Mary on the other hand must of been having a bad shift and thats all I'll about that. The Location truly could not have been any better being right in front of the beach and path. So if your worried about location don't because its great!! You can open your sliding glass doors and listen to the waves crash on the shore. Very soothing and peaceful!! It is also next door to the Moonstone Bar & Grill so if you not in the mood to drive anywhere, just walk next door.

The Hotel is very clean throughout, the rooms, lobby and parking lot are spotless. The room was pretty much basic and could use major updating to the carpet and especially the bathroom. Very similar to the quality of a Motel 6. We also had a fire place which was nice. Just because the room was outdated doesn't mean it was bad, like I mentioned it was VERY CLEAN just outdated.

Bottom Line is your paying for location which is 2nd to none and not luxury. We would stay here again. WiFi is Free and they give you your choice of a muffin, juice, and coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Also complimentary wine tasting with cheese and meats from 5:30-7:00pm.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms facing the ocean or room 300 which is a bungalow facing the ocean.

Overall a good experience. Easy and welcoming check-in with wine and cheese in the evening, friendly staff. Right on Moonstone Beach, but with the road separating you from the beach. So, definitely some traffic noise. We had a spa tub room, big enough for two. My wife loved it. Faux fireplace, but nice touch. Recently renovated, so a contemporary look. A little on th pricey side, but its the law of supply and demand on Moonstone Beach.
A couple negatives, they forgot us our first morning for the delivered to your room breakfast and the shower knob was loose and difficult to adjust the temperature. Small things, but when you are paying top dollar, shouldn't have to deal with.
Overall, a good experience and we'd stay there again.

Room Tip: A room with some sort of view is well worth it in our opinion.

not anything as we expected based upon the description and steep price, this is simply a roadside motel across the street from the ocean. Ocean front rooms simply mean that you can sit and watch the cars drive by the main road, with the ocean in the background. The main building has no air conditioning and "breakfast" is delivered to your door because there is no dining room! The decor is out of the 1970's (including the tv). A great disappointment and not a true "inn".

In many ways this is a wonderful place to stay, but there are a few aspects of the stay that could be improved--and I feel that it is worth mentioning them since this is an expensive hotel and therefore I expect a near-perfect experience.

First, the pluses: (1) great oceanfront location with beautiful views from the balcony (we had a second-floor room), and steps from the Moonstone Beach boardwalk trail; (2) nice lobby where they provide a complimentary wine reception in early evening; (3) attractive king bed room with casually elegant décor (kind of a mix between Asian and coastal feeling), with fireplace, mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig machine and pods, and TV; (4) comfortable bed and pillows combined with the ocean sounds make for a good night's sleep; (5) breakfast is brought to your room at the time you request, with a wide range of times available, and it's nice to sit by the window looking at the ocean as you eat; (6) very friendly and helpful staff who make you feel at home.

Now the minuses, at least some of which should be easily fixable: (1) There is not much choice for breakfast--basically either fruit (which you can get with plain yogurt or a hardboiled egg, and one morning we got granola) or a small muffin--and the fruit was mostly inedible all three mornings (unripe/tasteless cantaloupe and honeydew chunks). Also, there was a limited choice of types of tea, and only a Swiss Miss packet for hot chocolate. We wouldn't expect a huge spread of food and drinks, since this was supposed to be continental breakfast, but for the price of the room we would expect better quality and choices. (2) The handtowels are thin and rough, making it hard to be environmentally conscious and re-use them each day. (3) The shower temperature was uneven and we were almost scalded a couple of times. (4) There is no full-length mirror in the room--only a mirror over the sink in the bathroom. (5) Now we are getting into problems that may not be fixable. The bathroom design seems odd and inconvenient in that the toilet and tub/shower are in a separate room from the sink area and closet--this at first seems like a good idea because one person can use the toilet or take a shower while the other uses the sink, but in practice it seems unhygienic to use the toilet and then have to open the door without washing your hands. Also, there is no nightlight in the toilet room and no place (that I could see) to put one, so if you go in at night you have to turn on the bright light. Another problem with the design is that the sink has very limited counter space--not enough for toiletries for 2 people.

Despite the minuses, I would recommend a stay here, but it would be nice if they could improve some of the issues listed above.

Room Tip: Oceanfront balcony rooms are great.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2014

I have stayed in four other places on Moonstone Beach and all are wonderful.
However, Cambria Landing Inn & Suites Room 201 is excellent. The balcony with comfy chairs lets you look out the the ocean and boardwalk. One night my husband and I were looking at the ocean and a shooting star zipped by right in front of us! The room is small compared to other places we have stayed and the sink/closet area is tiny which allows one person room to brush teeth, wash hands while the other person has to wait.
The mattress in our room was a bit lumpy and, according to my husband, not firm enough.
Why such a positive rating? We loved the closeness to the ocean and the view/sounds AND the friendly staff. We went with another couple who had the room next door.

Room Tip: If you like a firm bed, check with the hotel first before booking your room.

We stayed at the Cambria Landing Inn & Suites for one night while driving from LA to San Francisco. The staff could not have been more helpful even though we arrived quite late, helping us out with directions for our journey along the Pacific Coast Highway the next day. The room was clean and comfortable with two double beds and enough space for luggage to be spread out. It was very peaceful and the view in the morning was lovely.
