“Very happy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

We have stayed at the Sea Otter a few times and we always enjoy ourselves. The location is awesome, it's very clean and staff is pleasant. Plus, we usually get a very good deal. The rooms have everything you need. They are fairly spacious and the bed are comfortable. We will be coming back.

My husband and I stayed here on a drive up the coast. We got a great deal on Travel Zoo and ended up paying a lot less than other guests! :) We only stayed one night but thought the staff was very friendly. A light breakfast was included. The room itself was small and pretty dated but very clean and had a nice fireplace. They have a nice pool and hot tub but we didn't get a chance to use either one. The location on Moonstone Beach was terrific and we over all liked the place. We would stay here again if we were able to get a similar price.

I would not pay more than $100 to stay here. This is average lodging, it is clean, service is nice and location is pretty much like the others. There is a gas-fireplace that does the job, but if you are looking for a cozy/charming place to stay this is not for you. We got a good deal and stayed for just one night as part of our "route one" trip.

Thanks for the honest feedback. If you were able to stay at our property for such a low rate, you received a very good deal in comparison with other three-diamond inns on Moonstone Beach Drive. Most of our guests tell us that they find Sea Otter Inn to be both cozy and charming. It seems there's no accounting for taste....

The Sea Otter Inn is old and in desperate need of remodeling. When was the last time you had a 400 pound TV in a resort room. If you've read about the heaters in other reviews, it's all true. Do yourself a favor. Turn the heater way down and use your blankets. The heater igniting will wake you up every 15 or 20 minutes. Breakfast is nothing to write home about either--store-bought bagels and mini-muffins. But the beds are really comfortable. Once you turn off the heater, you'll sleep like a baby.

When you check in you'll get a map of Cambria. IT IS NOT TO SCALE. It shows a restaurant, the Moonstone, very close to the hotel. Seeing that, you might think all the other restaurants and shops are close by. They are not. It's a good 1+ mile, one-way trip into the northern part of Cambria, and another 1+ mile hike into the southern part. The southern part is the best for restaurants and shops. We walked the first night, but took our car the second when we went to southern Cambria.

It's close to Hearst Castle. This is a must see for anyone in the area. Truly fabulous.

We would stay here again because we know about the heat and the map. A little updating could make it a real nice place to be. Don't change the beds, they were great. Everything else needs to go.

As with many family-owned inns, we prioritize capital expenditures. Our ocean-view rooms and suites have new flat-screen TVs, and we will replace the older TVs in the king and two-queen rooms as soon as possible. As there is no kitchen on property, we buy our deluxe continental breakfast items (hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, individual boxed cereals, bagels, fresh fruit, oatmeal, etc.) from outside sources. Our delicious muffins and all other pastries are fresh-baked and delivered daily by Cambria's own Allocco's Bakery. Sorry about the fireplace heater ignition sounds--it's just the nature of the beast. You're right about the map, which was custom-made in order to locate Cambria restaurants for our guests. It's great to hear that you plan to stay with us again--we hope it will be sometime soon!

My wife and I have stayed in Cambria more times then I can remember and stayed at most of the Hotels on Moonstone Drive.....and we always seem to return to the Sea Otter. It was the 1st place we ever stayed when visiting and we are due to return very soon and I am sure it will be a great stay this time we booked a Ocean front room. all the other rooms are clean and wonderful so this should be the same.

We have stayed here for years and love the locale, but the DVD player did not work properly and in the morning the desk clerk scolded us for drinking too much coffee when she had to go make more...at 8:50 a.m. Isn't that her job?? Will come again but hope that the manager reads this post and takes care of our issues.

It's great to hear that you are long-time guests. We're sorry there was a glitch with the DVD player. Our excellent maintenance staff is very responsive to issues reported by our guests. Please accept my apologies for the odd attitude about making coffee. I have addressed this issue and appreciate the heads up. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

We stayed at the Sea Otter Inn, for one night, earlier this week. The rooms were spacious and very clean, featuring fireplaces, refrigerators, DVD players and cable TV. One big advantage to the Sea Otter Inn is it's proximity to the ocean, with the beach board-walk just a short stroll away. Cambria is also a lovely, quaint little town with a very good general store that serves an excellent selection of fresh, made-to-order sandwiches. The hotel, and the town, is definitely worth a visit if you ever find yourself in San Luis Obispo.
