We did not stay at the El Colibri Inn on the 12th and 13th of February as we had planned. We arrived at the Inn on 2/12 at approximately 1:30 PM. The front deck clerk checked us in and gave us card keys for Room 201. She was un-professional and appeared confused, but accomplished the check-in without incident. We proceeded to Room 201 and were immediately disappointed upon entering the room. This room consists of 2 roughly 12’ X 12’ “boxes” interconnected with a small hallway with a bathroom between the rooms. The bed nearly filled one of the “boxes”, the other box had two small sofas, an armoire, and a desk that was occupied by a satellite TV receiver. The room felt very cramped and uncomfortable, so we immediately returned to the front desk and requested a room change. On the way to the front desk, we noticed Room 206 was being cleaned by a housekeeper, so we walked inside and looked around to compare rooms. Room 206 was larger and the floor plan made it much more comfortable than Room 201. Room 206 also had a wet bar, which El Colibri’s website claimed was a feature of all one bedroom suites. The website listed other room amenities that do not exist in Room 201: Jacuzzi deep soaking bathtub, oversized room of 600 square feet, and separate glass enclosed shower.
The same front desk clerk processed our room change request. She issued us card keys in an envelope on which she wrote “Room 206” and told us the room would be ready in 45 minutes. We removed all of our belongings from Room 201 at her request and left the Inn to explore Cambria. Upon our return, we were met outside the Inn by the same desk clerk who informed us the room would not be ready for another hour. We left the Inn again and returned in an hour. We went to Room 206, attempted to unlock the door, and were surprised when the door was opened from inside by a startled guest who had just moved in.
The guest accompanied us to the front desk where we explained the problem to a new clerk. She said there were no other rooms available. “Sorry”.
At that point I decided we had suffered enough abuse and we left the Inn. We obviously are very angry that the staff and Inn ruined our Valentine’s Day weekend. The second clerk, Holly, told us that we would be contacted by Inn staff to discuss the incident, but we have had no contact.
A few days later we received an email stating the El Colibri staff hoped we enjoyed our stay at the Inn as much as they enjoyed having us there. I responded to the email with this description of our attempted stay and have not received any response.
